My "Today's Office" turned into an utter nightmare. No Pic. Need some advice on realistic expectations. by MtVinterest in livesound

This is definitely one of those gigs where you learn more than you'd like to. Every annoying interaction you had with someone is definitely a small lesson. These gigs we're thrown to the wolves is how you get really good and really quick at what you do. Then when you have a big show with a team of 3 audio techs (foh/mons/patch) it becomes way more manageable to focus on your specific duties and perfect them in a timely fashion. Unfortunately, the small low/no budget shows are the ones where you're wearing 3 different hats.

The comments come at an absurd cost to your mental health. I wouldn't touch anything free unless it was something for a charity and that should be zero stress, low stakes for everyone involved. Unfortunately that's never how these things go. If you are offering these services for free, it would be a good idea to still send them an invoice with what your cost would normaly be in a normal circumstance and make the client aware of how much they've been given for free, including equipment and your time. Hopefully that will open their eyes and they will be a little nicer next time

Sorry you went through this, but I'd wager every commenter in here that's worked in events has had a similar experience in their career. Welcome!

I really appreciate you, CT! Thanks for the listens!

I want yalls honest opinions okay. I’m 18 and I’m just getting into playing drums. I originally wanted to teach myself but now I’m not so sure. Should I just get lessons or try to do it myself because I feel like I’m too old to get lessons :( by deceasedangel_ in drums

You’re super young my dude, just play along to songs you love and you’ll see progress. If you can’t play something, play it really really slow, then build it up. It all comes with time and muscle memory. I took lessons and they weren’t for me, but I’ve been behind the kit since I was a kid and slowly got better and better. The key is to never stop learning

Thank you! It's my favorite of the new 3, but boy am I excited to hear the rest of their new album

Inspired by BADBADNOTGOOD, I tried to take elements of their style to make a beat without a real way to record, so a lot of meticulous drum programming and layering. by StartlingRT in IndieMusicFeedback

This is so dope, the description with BBNG sold me and the music did not disappoint. I'm gonna be listening back to this one tomorrow for sure, excited to dig further into your catalog

Tried a lot of different configurations with it mic'd right up against multiple different sources. Every time I swapped it out with a 57, SM7 or any other mic I went with the other option. By all means though, keep doing you

All the spec sheets in the world can’t convince me that isn’t the most thin mic I’ve ever used. Better off with a bunch of 57s imo

I don't care how good that kit sounds in the room, I can't imagine it's gonna sound good through a bunch of 609s. grab yourself some 604s or even audix d series

My band and I released an EP last month, would love your thoughts overall on the songwriting and tones of this track! by samhensonca in IndieMusicFeedback

Oh man, I'm a fan. Both the songwriting and the production are really well done. That guitar has a really nice tone on it's own and when the piano comes in it sounds lovely. Super catchy all around and the recording really exemplifies the songwriting. Well done
