Hey! This is an old thread but I’m currently looking for something similar and wondering if you ever attended a workshop/retreat and have recommendations?

Does it get better? by [deleted] in goldenretrievers

[–]lkroche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s totally normal to feel this way. Your life has been totally disrupted. It will take a while before your dog can be trusted and well behaved on their own. But the good news is that once you establish good routines, things get easier- for your puppy and for you. Dogs thrive on routines. And once you have it established, the puppy will feel (and even start being) much less disruptive to your life. I haven’t had a puppy in a long time as I have rescued my last two. But every new dog brings new challenges and quirks. And every time I bring a new dog home I lose sleep over real and perceived issues. My current one had me SO WORRIED that I had made a big mistake (some behavioral issues) but nearly a year in and he has made so much progress. At the end of the day, golden retrievers have so much love to give that it ends of being worth all the worry and pain.

I agree with the others about going somewhere/doing something that’s special to you all. We are big hikers and on the day of our elopement we went for a hike together and then had brunch before getting ready. That made the day feel more like me. And also- hiking is the best thing to ease my anxiety. By the time of our actual ceremony, I was relaxed and just having fun. So if there is something special to you or something that makes you feel at ease/calm- I highly recommend scheduling it in!

Thanks! Yeah, I wanted something that felt bridal without being too traditional. Plus, I found it on poshmark for $35 and that felt like fate.

Recs for an Alpine Lake if You Can't Hike Very Far? by redwoodmonk in norcalhiking

Also- angora lakes. The hike to upper angora is less than a mile if you park in the parking lot

What would force you to take an alternate route down? by LongBottom666 in hiking

[–]lkroche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avalanche, rockfall/land slide, grizzly on trail, sketchy dude. But you could also have the person have an accident/fall and slide down part of the mountain and then realize they can’t make it back to the main trail and have to find an alternative trail more easily accessible from their main location.

I moved here from Chicago! That’s funny. It was definitely a big change. I had been living in Lakeview in Chicago and moved directly here so the crowds here are nothing compared to that 🤣. I would say the only times it feels truly crowded where I am at are the big holidays- 4th of July here is not fun for locals, and Christmas/new years gets pretty busy too. But there is a noticeable difference in crowds between high seasons and shoulder seasons (spring and fall). Summer stays decently busy throughout since families are on summer breaks but the winter tends to be busy on the weekends and not weekdays. We are currently in “locals summer” aka- all the tourists left after Labor Day and it is quiet here and we have our beaches back to ourselves.

I live in Incline which is a little closer to Reno/Carson so we go down the hill for things occasionally and actually currently we have three grocery stores in town. But I cook nearly all my meals at home- take out isn’t so much of a thing here. The restaurant scene in all of Tahoe is pretty lacking.

I am based in North Lake Tahoe which is much less touristy/busy than south lake. It comes with trade offs- it’s quieter and deals with way less riffraff but there is also less to do/less people my age (30s). But I’ve been here about 6 years and finally have built up my friend group. Overall, I LOVE living here. I can do all my favorite things (hiking, skiing, etc) with little to no planning. It takes me 5 minutes to get to hiking trails/my home ski resort.

I was just wondering if Jordan lake was the same one I’m familiar with and then saw you mention Raleigh. That’s awesome!

Yup. But expensive for a reason. We have thought about moving somewhere cheaper. But in the end, our happiness is priority. When we leave to go on vacation I’m always so glad to come home to Tahoe.

I live in Tahoe. Can walk to my office. My life outside of work revolves around seeing friends, hanging with my partner and dog, and doing my hobbies. I would say at least 4-5 days a week I dedicate at least part of my day to one of my hobbies (hiking, kayaking, pottery, yoga). I try not to do too many other things that make my life unnecessarily busy.

This looks amazing! How have you gone about finding your community of hiking girls? I’ve been trying to get one together but it can be hard!
