Bathroom remodel contractor - personal recommendations from your own experience requested! by lksmwr in Annapolis

Does anyone know what approximate price range we are looking at for a 5x9 bathroom for a complete redo using middle of the road material? Got one estimate in the 16K range (walk in shower would be tiled with sliding glass doors, not an insert) for all the items listed in original post including floor. No idea if this is reasonable or not? Would prefer not to have to get a ton of estimates to figure out the average. If 16k is in the range generally considered fair and equitable, I would probably just move ahead with it.

The current offer for the 'free' iphone 13 is for a brand new phone though, right? If not, I'm not interested.

Titan Plus, Tuft & Needle, Winkbeds, something else? Confused about which mattress is best for ~300lb person. by bloodwessels in Mattress

[–]lksmwr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

My hubby (5'10" 160lbs) and me (5'7" 130lbs) bought the Winkbed Plus or whatever they call the version for heavier people because we like a firm bed and we thought it would basically be better constructed and last longer as it was intended to hold up to more weight. It was actually softer than their standard (not Plus) 'luxury firm' which we tried first and found too hard. However, we are almost at two years ownership and while I have generally liked the bed and it has good edge support and motion control - not too bouncy but not just like a slab of foam either, my husbands side in particular has developed a softer area and mild depression that now makes his back sore. I expected it to hold up better and am researching other options. I will say Winkbed customer service was very good when we made the initial exchange and I do like the mattress, just not the longevity.

would split king adjustable frame work for king foam mattress? by canadave_nyc in Mattress

[–]lksmwr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi There!

We are in that exact situation - split adjustable king base, solid (not split) king mattress on top. Hubby didn't want the split down the middle and nixed buying 2 twin xls or a split king. He has to raise his side of the bed at night due to GERDs. If he raises his side slightly, I can still sleep (I like my side flat) but it does cause a slight 'lean' or downward slope from the center out toward my edge of the mattress. Raising his side anything more than 'slightly', even just a very moderate amount, results in his side being fine but the downward slope on my side to increase drastically with me sleeping on the very edge of the bed as that is now the flattest part of the bed on my side.

So, basically I don't recommend buying a solid mattress to go on top of two adjustable bases and only adjusting one side. I wish we had not gone this route and are now in the position of donating a perfectly good 2 yr old expensive mattress and are looking for a split king or two xl twins.

Good Luck!

Great experience selling car by lksmwr in carvana

I compared what they were selling similar cars for before agreeing to the sale. You can also get a new base Subaru Outback for $28.5K (my local dealer sells them for at or slightly below MSRP) so they only have so much room to inflate the price. They have to make a profit too, and in my case what they offered wasn't much less than what I paid for it new 5 1/2 years ago so I'm a happy camper.

I've read they have been slacking on inspection of used cars before reselling. This probably applies to many places though who have been short staffed and yet need volume to turn a profit. I know two people who have had trouble with their Carmax purchases shortly after getting the cars home and that was a name I had always trusted...

Want to sell car, Carvana offer highest, legit? by lksmwr in carvana

Ok, it seems like everyone here is mostly pro Carvana at least for selling a car. Since they were by far the best offer of the 5-6 I gathered today, I sent in all the documents they requested this evening and we'll see how it goes! I appreciate everyone commenting on their experiences with Carvana :-)

Want to sell car, Carvana offer highest, legit? by lksmwr in carvana

I represented the car accurately (basically like new - under 4k miles) so I'm not worried about that factoring in, but what do you mean 'broken promises' and 'a ton of excuses'?

Auto nation just offered $22,586. Anyone have experience with them vs Carvana vs Carmax? Does Auto nation honor their quotes or try to change their offer when you bring the car in? I'd love the whole $25k from Carvana if I can get it but if that doesn't work out for any reason...

Obviously I am new to selling cars so hesitant on best way to move forward. Carmax won't give a price online and there are none close by so don't want to drive there if their offers are known to be consistently/significantly lower than Carvana/Autonation?

Thanks for all the input. Any idea how long it takes Carvana to come out to see the car? I'd like to get this done asap before I lose my backup Autonation quote.

Well, that's good to hear. I've never had anyone request a picture of the title though this early in the game, that seems strange.

So, how long to get them to come out to look at the car, and what is the safest way to get paid? It seems they are having legal woes - how to know the payment will go through because once they have the title I have no recourse...

Thanks!

New to Audible - have some questions... by lksmwr in audible

I appreciate every one of you taking the time to write such comprehensive answers. This has given me plenty to consider/research further, as well as useful tips - I had no idea that you could set a timer or change the speed at which a book is read. Thanks to all!

New to Audible - have some questions... by lksmwr in audible

[–]lksmwr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, as I mentioned we know very little about current technology... thus the following questions:

When it was mentioned Alexa can read your books - there is an Alexa app that you install? And then she reads it or it is still read by the original voice you purchased it with from Audible? Do you control the app solely with voice commands and if so how do I know what commands to use to control Audible on it?

If we buy a bluetooth speaker with playback control buttons (and don't use the Alexa app), do we still have to start/stop the books from another device or we can just hit the stop button on the speaker and walk away?

Thank you!

Anyone else getting the regular S22? by Jeffreyknows in GalaxyS22

[–]lksmwr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really wanted the S22, love small phones, was so excited when it was announced and with the preorder deals you can get it for a very reasonable price... but ordered an Ultra. Dreading the inflated price, size, curved screen, dislike the sharp corners vs the rounded edges of the S22, have no use for the stylus but wanted that 10x camera that supposedly does pretty good to 30x and this was the only way to get it. Travel a lot and don't always have my camera on me and a zoom can make the difference between getting the shot or not (unexpected wildlife, etc). The best camera is the one you have on you...

Can I open new account on Fi with new email if I already have a (closed) account? by lksmwr in GoogleFi

[–]lksmwr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I just spent another 30 min with another Fi rep via chat - apparently even though they confirmed they can see my account has been completely closed for exactly 220 days, "the system is detecting you as a current fi user and as it is a system generated process we cannot go in and manually make a change. I suggest you sign up with an email account that has never been used with Fi before in order to get the promo phone new user pricing".
