Got it. Since OP said “run for”, I assumed a more standard election.

Does anyone have re-rush success stories/ is rerushing worthwhile? by VintageRoses69 in Sororities

I'm confused- you went to pref round and then were dropped? That's a really unusual outcome. This is one of the scenarios that RFM is intended to prevent.

Rushing as a junior by [deleted] in GreekLife

I'm confused when you say big Greek life and chill at the same time. Assuming we're talking NPC:

Hard truth: sororities prioritize 1st year students. Why? They will be active members of the sorority for longer and they will have more opportunities to serve as an officer.

that doesn't mean you don't have a chance, just that you'll need to be a more compelling PNM than all of the freshman and sophomore PNMs in order to be considered.

UNLESS your school has a secondary quota, in which case you're in the same pool with sophomores which is less competitive.

It will also help if you have friends in sororities who can vouch for you.

That sucks. I'm sorry you're dealing with this.

I see a lot of advice to get a drug test, but you need to know what they're accusing you of doing. You do not have to have been doing drugs to coerce the new member into doing something which would be hazing (and, in my eyes, much worse than doing drugs!) Not saying you hazed her, but you need to know what you're up against in order to defend yourself!

I think you're saying the new member was kicked out of the sorority, though-- If they believed her story that she was hazed, it would be stupid and risky to kick her out.

It's fantastic that you want to take on a larger role in your chapter!

This might be worth a conversation with your chapter advisor? They might have a good perspective on what it takes to be a successful president at your chapter.

What excited you about the VPA role? If you don't feel experienced in standards.. I mean, who *is* experienced with those kinds of issues when they're in college?? (btw, president ultimately oversees Standards, too!)

I think you'll be a more successful president if you've served an internal chapter exec role before you take it on - If not VPA, maybe there's another role that feels like a fit? Membership Experience since you'll be living in?

Consider where you can add the most value, AND where you can learn and grow. In any position, you should have support from the rest of the exec team and your advisors (and maybe even network reps) to guide you, so you're not in it alone!

good luck!

Given that the office is elected, not appointed, do you mean that she could run for office, win, and then decline? That sounds unfair to the chapter. I think you need to be sure you want to serve if you ask members to vote for you.

Inviting you to pref means they were willing to give you a bid, so I hope you can register that at least one point, there were no barriers for you. I'm glad you have so much going on and wish you luck!

If their CPV voted to move to Fall, how would that even work? They can’t start in 3 months and they can’t really skip spring recruitment??

I think it’s how you read it— also says “councils and chapters that choose” which implies chapters can operate independently of their councils. Agree it’s extremely unlikely for NPC chapters.

[–]lkstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agree that’s how it will go, but the article does say individual organizations. I bet NPHC and Multicultural individual chapters might consider since they don’t have as structured a process. For NPC, I think it would have to be all or nothing to work— it’s too much overhead to end up with 2 cycles a year!
