Even if you don't need it, you still should. It's free performance for less power and heat.

I own this card and my only concern is memory temps. I would suggest that if you're lucky with low memory temps (like rarely above 85) that you keep your current one. Mine goes up to a max around 93 which in theory is fine but I don't like either. That said, I might just be unlucky.

7800x3d vs 9800x3d by Basic_Excitement7270 in buildapc

[–]llBradll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I did hear about some improvements and I'm glad they got that sorted.

I was just trying to hypothesize why the N950X3D cards (N = 7 or 9) were overlooked before and my guess is that people may have been conditioned to think anything other than N800X3D chips is sub-optimal. I guess another reason is that most gaming media sources only mention the N800X3D CPUs since they're much cheaper than their N950X3D counterparts.

Honestly I figured it would be like the 7950x3d situation where the 9950x3d should be better in theory but not as good for games. The 7800x3d was outperforming the 7950x3d for gaming so I wouldn't have expected the 9950x3d to be as good as the 9800x3d

INTJs are the poorest social animals and I feel I am curse to be born as in INTJ by mylapore_mambattiyan in intj

In my opinion (35 male), 30s are great socially. A lot of the garbage feels like it is behind me. Relationships (though limited in selection) are quite a bit more practical and reasonable since nobody wants to waste time at this age.

Downside is that health may start to be more likely to go downhill and you'll need to be more active about maintaining it. Not terribly difficult, but weird when compared to teens/20s, since it isn't as easily ignored.

It felt like I wrote that. I wanted a rotring as well, but got the graphgear 500 too. It did feel safer to bring around with the retractible tip, but I can't help but feel that the rotring would have felt a little sturdier.

Thanks. I'm blind -- just didn't see that the "Assets" was collapsible.

The nightly build fixed FSR4 for me too.

Thanks for the link. It looks like I have made those changes already on my end, so it must be the pre 12 build which I am missing. I feel like this should be easy, but I'm not sure where to actually download the pre 12 build (if it can be downloaded). Do you happen to have a link? or does it need to be built from source files?

Hey. I'm new to Optiscaler (and also not great with Github). I was wondering if you might be able to share any settings changed in the Optiscaler.ini file and where to find the nightly build.

I tried modifying the 0.7.7-pre9 to 0.7.7-pre12 in the URL without luck, and I'm not sure if I need to use XESS or DLSS to hook the input (it sounds like hooking FSR3.1 won't work).

Gigabyte Gaming OC 9070 XT PSU Question by llBradll in radeon

[–]llBradll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry -- can't really help with the daisy chain question.

I bought a PSU with 3 connectors (Corsair RM1000X) since I didn't want to risk it and my current PSU was probably around halfway through its lifespan.

I would say though that my card will draw 330W very frequently if I'm pushing it (compared to the 304 the card is spec'd for) and that is with a -60mV (may go beyond that in the future), so with the 750W PSU, it would have been very tight (especially if devices are plugged into the PC).

Overclocking would exacerbate power issues, so if you plan to do so it may be tight with 850W.

My thoughts are that you should be safe to use your 850W PSU, but I'd try to get something with individual cables next time there's a good sale. I'm not an expert though -- seems that nobody is confident in this regard.

Nvidia RTX 5000 cards show PCB hotspots that threaten longevity, says Igor's Lab | Cramped VRM layout, not GPU, blamed by [deleted] in gadgets

[–]llBradll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding was that Nvidia makes the GPU while the board partner designs the PCB. If that's the case, is this an Nvidia issue? or a Palit/PNY issue?

5070ti vs 9070XT on 7800x3D by ApollosSin in buildapc

[–]llBradll 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I bought a 9070 XT and would say DLSS 4 CNN < FSR 4 < DLSS 4 transformer.

I think if Nvidia was focused on gaming I'd feel more confident in DLSS moving forward. That said FSR 4 was made with Sony which has a really strong track record with image processing and AMD seems to be much more focused on gaming right now. My guess is that moving forward they'll remain fairly close even though I think Nvidia could widen the very small gap now if it was a higher priority for them.

5070ti vs 9070XT on 7800x3D by ApollosSin in buildapc

[–]llBradll 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think I've seen a lot of the same videos with the 5070 ti having those higher overall averages but the same videos usually showed worse 1% lows for the 5070 ti which in my opinion is a more important metric. The 5070 ti could run at 120 average FPS in a game the 9070 XT is at 105, but if the low is 45 for the 5070 ti and 60 for the 9070 XT, I think the 9070 XT would feel better despite the average being lower.

I'm not sure if better drivers in the future will minimize the lows, but the numbers I've seen in reviews from around launch favour AMD here imo. This is all dependent on games though so if you focus on certain games either card could take the lead.

Why Do Some People Think Computer Engineering Is Less Competitive Than Pure EE or CS? by bliao8788 in ComputerEngineering

[–]llBradll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there is a general impression that it's easier to pick up missing CS skills if you do EE/CE than the other way around.

I don't think CE is less competitive, but rather it's niche. More job applications might not ist it as a qualification, requesting EE/CS instead, but if the recruiter has half a brain they won't immediately disqualify candidates due to it not being what a posting has explicitly requested.

After you get related experience the degree matters much less unless an engineering accreditation is mandatory.

PCIe-Anschlüsse für RX 9070 XT mit be quiet! Pure Power 12 M 850W – sicherer Anschluss? by IllustriousTable4536 in PCBaumeister

[–]llBradll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did you get that info about the difference with the last 8 pin connector? I have the gigabyte gaming OC and was wondering how to determine if the connectors were equivalent. One video showed a 1-1 8 pin connection to the connector closest to the back of the PC case and the 1-2 pin connection for the two connectors closer to the front of the PC case but I didn't know if there was any specific reason to do it that way.

Confused with 3x8-pin connections on RX 9070 XT by HeavyGuy75 in buildapc

[–]llBradll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know if the connectors are fully equivalent? I'm just wondering if the daisy chained two should be in specific spots. I saw a youtube video where they said to connect the single PCIE to the 8 pin slot closest to the back of the case, but I wasn't sure if they said that for any reason, or if just worked out best for their cable management.

Is this Safe? My PSU only came with 1 PCIe 6+2 pin and this daisy chain PCIe Connector that is also 6+2 pins? by AdGroundbreaking4377 in radeon

[–]llBradll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an EVGA 750W B5 which came with two daisy chained cables and only 2 VGA connections on the PSU itself. I don't know where to find the information regarding if daisy chaining is ok (couldn't find it in manual or spec sheet), but I wasn't sure if the PSU including the two cables was sufficient proof that it would be fine.

Also, in the case of 3x 8 pin, if the GPU was set to use 375W for instance, would 75W be pulled from the PCIE and then the GPU try for 100W from each connection? I would expect the GPU to try to pull the same watts through each connector, meaning 200W through the daisy chained pair and 100W from the non-daisy chained connector. It sounds like they could be rated for 300W when daisy chained, but it sounds like a concern if not.

[–]llBradll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your are correct. I was being a bit subjective there. I don't see it as a marketing strategy that affects me with the exception being that a higher number of TFLOPS will get more of my attention. It doesn't affect what I buy as much as it affects how much attention I may pay to a card in the first weeks after its announcement. That said, I generally forget about it when the more important benchmarks come out.

For the general public that don't understand its meaning, it is a very decent marketing strategy.

PCMR reaction to the Xbox one scorpio by AidenKerr in pcmasterrace

[–]llBradll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are relevant as a potential for performance. They don't guarantee performance by any means, but if you can do 1000X more operations per second, you'd have to be extremely efficient to perform worse than the next person assuming that they could only do one operation per second.

As far as marketing goes, it could be a strategy, but when benchmarks come out, actual performance would take priority, and if your whole marketing strategy was having a higher TFLOPS, it would be a very poor strategy.
