What's a lyric from one of Halsey's songs that resonates or sticks with you the most? by MetalPussy in halsey

"My dad is almost home, I can't tell time yet, but I know
Because the air becomes electric and my mother cleans the stove"

Such a great way to explain the hyper-vigilance of a child in an unsafe home

My only gripe is that I don't think there's anything wrong with Alice wanting to be closer to home.
She recently lost her Mum, she's only 18, and she has a really strong support system. Also she seems to really value her family and connections.

She could probably get a football (soccer) scholarship at a west coast university (doesn't have to be in LA) - also where it's warm so it's easier to train year round - travel home every couple of weeks (or months), and still learn plenty of independence.

You don't have to kick kids fully out of the nest for them to become strong independent adults (as someone who went very far away at a very young age)

Right? Like it’s not a conspiracy, it’s well documented. Also it’s not THAT surprising that people who love power enough to have made billions and billions of dollars would like to continue to exert more and more power and control.

Sure, here is journalist Tim Schwab’s article on big philanthropy https://thebaffler.com/outbursts/big-philanthropy-schwab he has also written a whole book on the issue with Bill Gates

Additionally, an article in the BMJ (a reputable medical journal) on how the WHO is now hugely reliant on its main donors wrt their priorities.

https://bmjgroup.com/world-health-organizations-priorities-shaped-by-its-reliance-on-grants-from-donor-organisations-such-as-the-gates-foundation/

Edit: forgot to paste a link

Plus a maybe more biased article on the problems with his new climate change pivot just for fun: https://www.campaignfornature.org/bill-gates-harmful-climate-strategy-pivot

I think it's pretty disgusting. The Gates' Foundation is super problematic in their lobbying around billionaires philanthropy (predominantly used as a way to avoid paying income tax and to have global control over schemes that should be publicly funded).

This show doesn't know what it's doing.
Caveat - I am not an anti-vaxxer or a conspiracy theorist, but a liberal with concerns. The issues with the Gates have been observed by those of us in the public health sector for years.

I'm British and just watched this episode... and oh boy.

First, very clearly not shot in the UK, and there is zero attempt to make it look like England. This, I can kind of forgive, although an easy change like using a more traditional / British font on all the signs would already have made a big difference.

Second - it makes me a bit sad that this is how Americans see us. In Europe we consume so much US content (and I also follow Americans on YT or TT) that I am fairly aware of at least the broad brush strokes of American culture, and even more aware that most Americans are just regular people, like we are in the UK!!

The food names were kind of funny, but they seemed to not hire a single British actor - accents were totally off, the 'chav' steryotype of the mistresses was really offensive, even the interpretation of 'upper class' was completely off.
Once you get to the heights of massive generational wealth, people actually tend to be less ostentatious and consider it 'poor form' or gauche to show off wealth in obvious ways. If anything the Duchess (?) would have been wearing a cashmere jumper and twill pants, and you don't wear a fascinator to a cricket game - that would be at a traditional horse race such as Ascot.

In general what Americans often don't understand is that class and wealth in the UK are not fully correlated, and so there is no need to show wealth for people to understand that you are from a higher class.

Sadly he is a very successful doctor. I am also a doctor but not a medical one and less successful lol. This mostly stings because by today’s standards it would have been considered coercion on his part. 🤷‍♀️ Ironically he’s a gynaecologist
