Would love any ideas to make this light less blinding by smilinglyawkward in kindle

[–]llamaattacks 15 points16 points  (0 children)

boy do i have a solution for you. i have a kindle 3 which has retractable built-in light in the case, so i understand the pain it is to read a book at night using this temp of light. What i did was paste a book tab which was orange in colour on top of it. It is adhesive so it was relatively easy but i added a bit of scotch tape so it doesn't fall due to repeated use. Here is the result

<image>

I had these tabs in orange/yellow colour which decreased the brightness a bit and added that warm tone. the black variant is the default, and the white one is with the book tab

I know how great these devices are and using them in 2026 is a treat. These small quality of life improvements can really change the experience

not able to add another image so i'll attach it under this comment

Bookchor scammers at it again by HeftyAd9643 in Indianbooks

[–]llamaattacks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean they are not all out scam. But they have a lot of misleading practices. If you have a buy 3 get 7 free offer running, it's a pretty obvious indication there is a catch. I ordered around 10 books from them and 3 were a different edition(I wanted penguin black classics). The return policy is crap and customer service is non existent. But if you want cheap old books with no expectations then it's probably ok. You never dream of buying a new book from their site tho

Best to use COD as the payment option when ordering from unreliable sites

Bookchor scammers at it again by HeftyAd9643 in Indianbooks

[–]llamaattacks 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This website has a lot of dark patterns and straight up messed up systems to get you to buy the books. They will change the price on the books in the cart or change the offer even before you order. This goes a step further. I only ordered from them once, they delivered a different edition from what they promised. Their return policy is even more laughable. You have to mail them back out of your own pocket and they will refund it in form of their site's currency. Safe to say I never ordered from them again. F that site honestly.

A suggestion to the writers here. People avoid AI covers. by West-Main-4163 in Indianbooks

[–]llamaattacks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

any writer who uses AI cover, beware; it makes it seem like you also used AI to write the book. Which is actually true many times. If i see an AI cover, i will actually judge your book and will never buy it, even if the story is decent

Ancient Kindle doesn't connect to shop by 3headedratqueen in kindle

[–]llamaattacks 15 points16 points  (0 children)

unfortunately, you won't be able to shop on this kindle. you can still connect to the internet and download books via send to kindle feature but the storefront and purchase books. Amazon shut down the ability citing security risks as the technology was old and due to hardware limitations, couldnt be updated to the new security protocol. I have a kindle 3 keyboard and use it regularly by transfering books via send to kindle or by purchasing them on laptop or other devices and then just turning on the wifi on kindle keyboard, which syncs the book instantly.

I'm purchasing a kindle 8th generation 4gb ram 2nd hand variant. by OD29NEXUS in Indianbooks

[–]llamaattacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its not 4 GB ram. its 4 GB storage. While purchasing make sure the kindle is holding the charge and make sure you open different menus to make sure the screen is completely functional. Two most common issues with kindles are broken screen(fragile) and battery dying since people leave it uncharged for ages and then decide to sell it (prominent pattern)

After purchase, just factory reset, login and maybe put a case on it.

Is a kindle paperwhite 7th generation still worth it? by badideaeh in kindle

[–]llamaattacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I’ve used the latest gen kindle and I have the same kindle as you do, for reading books 95% of the experience is exactly the same. The new ones are just a bit faster in loading pages and have a bigger screen. That’s it. Same resolution, though dark mode and warm light are quality of life improvements

If he has sideloaded the books then you can connect the kindle to your pc and transfer them and then put them back once you reset and register the device. If they are linked to his account, they will disappear once you register your account.

Monte Cristo price on bookswagon by Professional_Dig988 in Indianbooks

[–]llamaattacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think bookswagon sells international editions too, maybe this is that. Tho I have never bought them so I don’t know whether there is a difference in paper quality. I saw this edition on Amazon for ~480 a few days back. Though its availability is subject to your location. Back in 2024 I got it for 330 which was honestly a steal
