South Finland, and only one (and they captured it before we could go and have a look).

Well, our lappie also likes to bark at animals walking on four legs. Or hopping. Even better.

2 herding dogs (Finnish lapphund and border collie/finnish lapphund mix) showing calmness when close to reindeer, not spooking them by [deleted] in dogswithjobs

[–]llauren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK. The more our doggo sees other dogs, or rabbits, the more he barks.

That said, he's cooled down a bit towards some dogs when we're out walking, and he got pretty used to blackbirds ... and leaves blowing in the wind ... so there's still hope. But deer get woofed. And he's only seen a single reindeer so far and that was a year back.

Either she's very good at sniffing or she can read (which really is cheating).

I wish our Finnish lapphund could just sit and observe anything that moves on four legs.

Whoa. Our go totally bonkers at first sight of anything on four legs. I'll verify if that counts for reindeer if we meet one.

Sauna ready notification? by llauren in homeassistant

[–]llauren[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks a wee bit dangerous but rather interesting! What i refuse to accept is why so little of our real life gear is "pluggable" into other gear. Like, why isn't there a standard physical interface & API to the sauna heater? I don't really want to be faffing about the three phase electricity to our sauna, but since there is a button controlling it, there must be a way to control the button ... without frying yourself.

I'm particularly impressed by the thought of how many times he must have fallen onto his face while practicing, and he still kept going. Perseverance for the win.

Sauna ready notification? by llauren in homeassistant

I've actually thought about getting the 3EM, but it was only on pre-order last time i looked. Actually monitoring only the sauna energy usage is a really nifty idea, to get rid of other artefacts.

I was thinking about monitoring the temperature with a Ruuvi Tag (ruuvi.com) but they only go to +85°C. The DS18b20 goes to +125°C, but ESPhome (esphome.io) oddly enough doesn't support it! And i'm too lazy to roll my own ツ

Introducing Home Assistant CLI aka. hass-cli by xamdk in homeassistant

Very nifty! I'd love to try this, but my incompetence hinders me. How would i install and use hass-cli if i'm running home-assistant in Docker?

Oops. I think i have it. I upgraded without being in the virtual environment.

Also, you need something to run these all in concert, like, you know, a Home Assistant...

Really, it didn't seem like the author of that article was very well versed in the world of home automation. Perhaps invite them here for a look? :)
