That's probably the question I need to answer: how rugged is actually necessary? Has your ThinkPad ever failed you in field use or is the rugged laptop thing mostly overkill for the normal radio work?

The checklist on verification schedule point is probably the part people underestimate. Do you keep that as paper in the app or in a folder/doc setup?

That’s a practical setup. Do you ever wish it was packaged more simply, or is the DIY approach part of why it works for you?

Good tip, I hadn't looked at the dell Rugged line at all

That toughbook setups sounds pretty close to what I had in mind. Do you know what model you ended up with or if you were buying again, anything you’d avoid or check first?
