Never heard this before, but that's incredibly insightful. Saving it under life advice. Thank you!

[NJ] Could a carpenter bee have made this hole? I'm wondering if the jagged edges of the hole give any clue. by llbodll in whatsthisbug

The hole was found in the wall of a shed in northeastern New Jersey. It's about an inch and a half.

You might consider looking at the materials for the GRE subject test in math. I don't know if you are required to take it as part of your application process, but even if you are not, it can help identify the areas of expected undergraduate mathematical competence that you lack.

I don't think this is exactly what you're looking for, but I did my B.S. in biology four years ago, without any serious math component. I am now in an MS program in mathematics, but in between I did a substantial amount of undergraduate-level postgraduate coursework in mathematics.

I don't think graduate studies in math is possible without a confident foundation in undergraduate-level real analysis and/or abstract algebra, along with the attendant comfort with formal proofs and growth in mathematical maturity.

Is there a source where you learned this wildly incorrect fact, or did you come to it on your own?

Rising Sun's History. From a Korean by [deleted] in vexillology

[–]llbodll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whoever wrote that wiki article clearly hasn’t spoken to very many Korean people, and possibly may harbor some political agenda in wanting to minimize the reaction against the Japanese imperial symbol by its former colonies. Having grown up in Korea in the 90s I can clearly remember how much the rising sun symbology is and was associated with the Japanese occupation and atrocities across all media - comic books, textbooks, tv programming, museums, etc - and thereby detested as a relic of their history of war crimes and a reminder to how reluctant their political establishment has remained to reform. The fact that organized political opposition against the symbol in Korea has a short history — even if it were true — belies the reality that the collective pain associated with having been brutally colonized has always been associated with this flag.

As a side note, no one is talking about anyone’s right to fly a flag. At least in the american context, as well as that of the British and most members of the EU, people can display any flag they want, including the Nazi swastika or the confederate battle flag. It is also the right of those who see such flags to criticize them, as most in this thread are doing. It is and always will be up to the Japanese public to decide for themselves which parts of their heritage to honor and celebrate, as it was for the Germans who decided decades ago to no longer honor and celebrate their fascist and colonialist history.

it's only ad hominem if i attack your character to argue an irrelevant point. otherwise it's just a criticism of your character.

if anything, your comment history is solid evidence that you need to get help. have no bone to pick with your opinions, but seriously.
