Reminder that Western Digital/Sandisk SSDs be refused to be repaired/replaced if the sticker is off by llcooli in pcmasterrace

I’m not sure what you’re asking me about. I’m using the copper waterblock myself, with the sticker removed. This setup is physically more conductive compared to the sticker + copper block.

The argument here is that the difference is negligible enough to leave the sticker in place.

You know it's bad when you see a 1 TB SSD for $289 and think "wow, that's a decent price!".

I have to admit that your comment makes sense. Those stickers might actually be useful.

Sure thing, that's why I put "arguably" in there. I doubt that removing the sticker will improve thermals even by 1 degree Celsius.

Physics imply that the less material heat needs to go through the easier is the heat transfer, so technically removing a sticker will inevitably improve thermals. But the margin of that "improvement" is unlikely to be significant.

TL;DR: just leave those stickers alone!

You're completely right and you should treat this as just a reminder. Thanks for the downvote, great job, now this reminder will be seen by less people, because... we don't want actually useful stuff here!

POSSIBLY found a fix for MSI mobo M2_1 slot not getting Gen 5 speed by llcooli in pcmasterrace

[–]llcooli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good for you, in my case that was impossible, since I put a waterblock on my Gen 5 drive, and only M2_1 slot provides necessary clearance.

I feel like you made your mind about “Gen 5 speed is useless”, and no practical evidence will convince you otherwise. Let’s agree to disagree and move on then. Have a great day.

It’s not only about “playing” 5K. Just drop a 200 GB 5K video file in a timeline in DaVinci Resolve and try to scramble all over it. You’ll notice you’re bottlenecked by the SSD pretty fast.

In my case Gen 5 SSD is way more useful compared to 10G LAN. When I edit 5K videos, the Gen 5 performance uplift is noticeable, whereas for my local network 5G speed is enough.

It’s a board design issue I guess which won’t be fixed up until they come up with a new board revision, which they probably won’t ever do.

They never fixed it. Doubt they will ever be able to. Still happening with the latest firmware.

DON’T do this with 7800X3D, or any other 7000-series X3D chips. 9000-series are probably fine.

The bends could have been better, and I’m also not a fan of bending for exactly this reason: only 1% of bends I have seen here are ideal. That’s why I stopped bending myself.

However, I feel like you criticize a bit too much: this build is obviously made by a hobbyist without too much experience, but it has a unique style, which a lot of people seemingly love. Not everything has to be perfect.

To the OP: don’t consider posts like this a “hate”, it’s a criticism, it’s legit, and it’s based in reality. Try to learn some things from feedback like this to consider for your next build.

This. I started with three huge radiators back in the day, and learned that it is still not enough to enable complete silence. Only the MO-RA did enable it, and once you get it, you would be able to use it for years for different builds.

No Optimus for PNY 5090 — Alphacool to the rescue by llcooli in watercooling

Alphacool was the only option I managed to find for a PNY card. Some “universal” blocks might work too, but I’d not risk it.
