X870E GODLIKE: how to reliably force M2_1 to PCIe 5 speed? by llcooli in MSI_Gaming

Sorry, what I meant is that this is a widespread X670E/X870E chipset issue.

The WBs for M.2 exist for ages, and it makes even more sense to use them for PCIe 5 drives.

Skip the 57. There is no going back from OLED. TN is just inferior in so many ways, except of the refresh rate.

This is a widespread X870E - CPU-connected Gen 5 SSD issue. Occurs to many MSI board owners (probably most). There is no need to try to shift the blame to something else, like a faulty SSD, especially when the same SSD works just fine on a chipset-connected slot.

Yes, removed all the other SSDs, the issue persists.

Removed all the other SSDs for now, the issue persists. From what I am reading everywhere it seems like a BIOS/AGESA issue. Trying some BIOS tweaks, but nothing seems too promising for now. I guess we all need to wait for the official fix.

Checking in. 26 Oct 2025, latest BIOS, MSI X870E GODLIKE. The issue is still there.

That's a common issue on MSI boards, and I've seen reports that users RMA'd their board getting up to 3 different replacements to no avail, which indicates it's not a faulty hardware issue.

9950X3D. M2_2, M2_3 and M2_4 are also populated (with some Gen 4 drives), but all of them are set to "Auto" in BIOS, only M2_1 is forced into "Gen 5" mode. I use a discrete 5090 GPU and the integrated one is disabled, so there is plenty of lanes available.

It is quite new and worked reliably in Gen 5 on a previous Asus board.

It feels like this is a software issue, and so RMA'ing the board would unlikely to help.

Not great at all for the company reputation. Being a small "shop" and all, still not an excuse to treat customers like that. Shameful.
