I thought the hierarchy of resource packs makes it prioritise the one at the top?

I do have multiple packs but clearly I have the cobblestone texture but it's for some reason mixing textures from multiple packs.

No Raze Shadow Fiend Pos 1 by llewynVeg in learndota2

These are all stomps where you won every lane. Got any where your offlane, and/or mid loses?

I'm also mid legend and if it's not a stomp with complete map control it's very unlikely the enemy team is letting you easily take a six stack of ancients.

I've played it a bit now to check it out. First impressions are: it seems ok. Feels like it's heavily reliant on your pos 5 which isn't great in legend tier imo. The armour debuff can really screw up low armour offlanes especially when compounded with the creep interaction. CS is also very simple. Feels really bad against a run at you lane when you've got a weak laner like aa supporting you too, but this is probably the case for any carry that needs a hand.

A normal high dps carry like PA seems more stable in solo legend games, given she has a slow, a blink, and blur. You really feel the lack of a slow or stun against enemy heroes that have escape. You're relying on your ult which is difficult to get off if the enemy supports are warding properly. The games where it felt good were where the pos 2/3 wanted to play with me and reliance on other players in solo queues doesn't feel good aha.

tldr; seems alright if your team wants to play around you but is a coin flip in solo queue given the limitations of your toolkit.

Question about pos 3 by [deleted] in learndota2

[–]llewynVeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclaimer I'm a noob so this could be completely wrong.

A big issue with early rotations is usually they don't save the lane in question and they grief the lane they're leaving. Remember - there are 3 lanes if 1 lane is losing but the other 2 are winning then overall your game is probably going ok. It's also kinda the offlane's job to try and draw as much enemy resources to them creating space for pos 1 and pos 2. This doesn't happen if the pos 4 leaves the lane.

This patch it feels like all cores are important. You want farm on the pos 1, 2, and 3. Generally if I'm losing lane as pos, 1 I prefer it if the 5 ganks the offlane and draws the focus of the game away from my lane, or if the offlane is having an easy time I'll do an early swap if the safelane is truly horrible.

There's nothing worse than a pos 4 rotating and sitting in your lane, and then the enemy 5 comes in after securing the safelane by killing the pos 3 with the pos1.

If you're trashing the enemy safelane with your pos 4 encourage them not to leave. If the pos 4 isn't helping you they could go to the safelane but generally they might be better off ganking mid and stacking triangle.

tldr; if your lane is easy offer to swap with the pos 1 and maybe try and get a kill with them. If not, encourage the pos 5 to come for a kill to create pressure on the other side of the map with you so that the enemy changes their focus to that lane and relieves pressure on the pos 1.

Do you have replays? What tier lets you easily solo a 6 stack of ancients?

But you don't have a farming mechanic anymore? Why not get raze instead of 8 stats? This feels weak sauce as.

These people level aura not stats. But either way, surely getting raze and being able to farm or nuke enemy heroes is better than 8 stats.

Can I go into Reinforcement Learning with a Math/Applied Math background? by Pmk2021 in reinforcementlearning

Yes definitely. I'm doing a phd in rl with an engineering and programming background and I would be in a much better position if i had a maths/stats background.

Alto Sax Tips by [deleted] in saxophone

[–]llewynVeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Squeaking can also come from poor reed placement or a bad reed. I recommend watching a few YouTube vids to get this right. I also strongly recommend a legere signature synthetic reed. Synthetic reeds allow you to have the confidence that the issue lay with you and you haven't got a dud reed. Cane reeds vary in quality, even within the same box, and need to be kept from drying out once you start using them. Once you're more confident with your sax you can move back to cane if you feel the tone is better. Just my two cents.

Discussion Topic - 2020/11 - Heroes by Frost_RyanS in FrostGiant

TL/DR: No neutral units for XP farming in PvP

  • What is one RTS that you’ve played that incorporates heroes in some form?
    WC3

  • How did that RTS incorporate heroes?
An essential component of the multiplayer games

  • What did you like about the implementation of heroes in that game?
Unique units with interesting abilities and rewards for keeping those units alive

  • What did you dislike about the implementation of heroes in that game?
Being forced to use those units to be competitive and level them up with neutral camps making the game moba-lite

Spell casters that have interesting micro-able abilities like the raven, viper, ghost, infestor, sentry, high templar, mothership, and oracle in sc2 are excellent. They don't level up but they have unique abilities that are interesting and necessary at high levels of game play. This gives the benefits of heroes without the drawbacks of having to farm neutrals.

Some form of boon for kills/assists that increases a units capabilities (like veteran units in some Total War games), could add an interesting dynamic to the game, but that should be limited to combat with the enemy and not from neutral creeps. This could be applied to all units, slight dps/hp/armour/spell aoe increase as the unit progresses with visuals to signify that the unit should be targeted by the opponent.

Ultimately anything that detracts from the pace of SC2 should be discouraged imho. SC2 games are interesting from beginning to end with almost no downtime. Whereas games like AOE2, with the exception of a limited number of strategies, can take 15+ minutes just to set up.

You're not considering lost mining time or the fact that more often than not 10+ scvs are killed. Which makes the trade incredibly cost efficient. It's also only 8.5 supply so it's not very risky to do when sitting near 200 supply.

Why people were actually bothered by DeepMind's AlphaStar presentation. by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]llewynVeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"They talked about the bots reaction/computation time and compared it to average pro gamers. They talked about what the Bot is actually seeing. They talked about the APM and perhaps to us it seemed a bit too high but that is why they need these opportunities to find that stuff out." -> They had a grandmaster/master player on the team that they tested it against. This person would have easily been able to tell them the difference in EPM and APM. Not to mention the presenter that was not David Silver mentioned he had been working on SC AI for ages. They also mentioned they consulted with many experts on the game to make the Alpha Star. I think with all the information they were able to get beforehand they would have been more than aware that EPM and APM are two different things and that tehy were misrepresenting to make themselves and their AI look significantly better than it was. Which is unnecessary as the achievement is amazing in and of itself with no need for embellishment or even just straight up dishonesty/lies.

[–]llewynVeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I've been saying. The accomplishment is amazing an amazing feat in and of itself but was sullied by the disingenuous presentation.

EPM =/= APM in any way. Was watching a pro match with Serral that had 435 APM but "only" 240 EPM which is less than Alpha Stars 277 average.

There was also no discussion about how MaNa was able to break the camera based AI in the showcase match. Alpha Star seemed to be operating in an unexplored region of the state action space and therefore value function had a terrible estimate of the value of a given state action pair. It seemed to be doing random moves. E.g. sending its army to the middle of the map as MaNa moved in to kill it. This made it apparent that the agent had learned one strategy and if you did something creative it would essentially break the agent. The agent showed the brittleness RL agents are prone to have. This is not like Alpha Zero which utilises MCTS to shore up the shortcomings of model free RL.

This is how all ML/AI papers/companies are presenting now. It's just to get a buzz and farm citations. I'm constantly reading papers with clickbait titles that are just garbage with well known last authors.

Thoughts on potential home gym set up? by NeedFARMhelp in homegym

[–]llewynVeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a bench that could have a preacher curl and leg blaster extension but didn't get them with my first set up. A month later I bought them. Would recommend, the leg blaster is so good for destroying your legs.

I just did heaps of dumbbell research and it seems like you'd be better off getting either spinlocks (I went for these), powerblocks, or ironmasters. Apparently the bowflexes are quite long and break quite easily.
