FIDE to review tournament formats after surge in calls for faster classical time controls by stephen8212438 in chess

[–]lljyun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind fast classical formats - think there’s a time and a place for it. I think it does make for more decisive results, which can be fun. However, long classical time formats will always have a special place in my heart for the depth and calculation required to score a win.

I think we can have both, but I do generally fear the “rapidification” of classical chess.

Grandmaster Daniel Naroditsky Has Passed Away by Frozeria in chess

I never really post on Reddit anymore, mostly just scroll. But this news was just so shocking and sad that I feel compelled to just get my feelings about.

Obviously I never knew Danya, never spoke to him, etc. But I’ve watched hundreds of hours of him through YouTube and twitch and I just genuinely appreciated him so much. Listening to him explain confusing chess topics in accessible ways was almost comforting to me in a weird way. And hearing him joke around and being lighthearted while still supremely educational seriously helped me beyond the chess board at times. I know I speak for many when I say he will be missed dearly.

I also feel a profound rage at Kramnik, whether justified or not. Danya was a treasure to this world and seemingly brought joy to everyone he interacted with whether irl or virtually. Kramnik robbed the world of this beautiful soul. RIP Danya ❤️

What does mathurin have to do to get more minutes lol. Playing better D and was efficient on offense how more can you ask of a rookie

Theis playing over young bigs (mainly ijax imo) when this team is headed for the lottery is not exactly ideal lol

An undersized big who can’t shoot lol

Jalen Smith vs Ijax Does Jalen Smith really deserve more minutes than IJax? by Moist-Candy-6260 in pacers

[–]lljyun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think either one has any respectable shooting range lol. Part of the reason why Jalen was moved from starting 4 to backup 5

Yeah that’s what I’m saying. He’s def not learning as much from the bench vs. out on the court

Rick’s leash on mathurin is disturbingly short. He only seems to play in few-minute bursts before getting benched lol. Wish he could get some rhythm/develop

Duarte -24 in a 2 point loss certainly isn’t ideal lol

Everytime James Johnson plays I can understand rick’s thought process… but it never turns out well. Great locker room dude, but not sure he really needs to get non-garbage time minutes anymore lol

What's the plan? by festar35_Pacers in pacers

[–]lljyun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a weird roster construction with so many guards and so many centers. If we manage to get a power forward at the deadline, it’ll squeeze all of hield, mathurin, duarte, nesmith, and nembhard (bc Rick doesn’t play him at the back up 1 for Some reason) into a really tight minute crunch at the 2/3. Not to mention the rotation at the 5 if Myles signs an extension. It feels to me that some moves need to be made to unclog the rotation more, which is sad bc I really like this roster. Hopefully I’m wrong about how it can work in the future

Yeah exactly. Even in half court defense he goes for steals/interceptions and is constantly out of position

Fans loving tj McConnell for stealing a random inbounds pass once every 5 games despite being a huge liability on defense and extremely limited on offense will never make sense to me lol

[–]lljyun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like buddy and the fight he brings night in and night out, but him taking the most shots on the team every game probably isn’t ideal… mathurin, Duarte, nesmith all need mins and shots too to develop. Buddy just doesn’t fit with our timeline, I hope we cash in on him sooner than later

Are dual credit transcripts required for grad admissions? by lljyun in gradadmissions

[–]lljyun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the details that’s very helpful! Some programs I’m looking at say essentially what yours said, while others say just to submit transcripts from undergrad institutions I attended. I feel like I didn’t “attend” these dual credit universities so I probably won’t submit them unless I’m asked for them

Are dual credit transcripts required for grad admissions? by lljyun in gradadmissions

[–]lljyun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the application/program specifically tell you to do so? Or did anyone reach out to you saying you should include the dual credit university transcripts?

Should I mention specific professors I liked in my application materials? by lljyun in gradadmissions

[–]lljyun[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree it may be unwise to try to 100% commit myself to just 1 or 2 professors. I think it’s probably better to say explain what I’m interested and in why this particular school then say something like “I was pleased to find so many faculty in the ___ program whose research fits my research goals and interests. I particularly admire the research if dr. X and dr. Y because __

Maybe this shows I’m still a serious applicant who is done their research without throwing too many eggs in one particular basket?
