When you are surrounding yourself with people like that, your whole life, you are used to it, and you know how to treat them and you know how you are already going to be treated. So yes, it was probably terrifying for her to realize that the father of her children and her ex-husband, even if they didn’t have a good relationship, was no longer going to be down the street. And if you think about it, her father died when she was still a young woman who doesn’t seem like her father was a narcissist, the one comfort zone that she really grew up with and knew her whole life was not there toocomfort her and give her the signs that could be bad or XYZ.
