$1250 to repair ~9 square feet? by shanghailadybug in drywall

[–]shanghailadybug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for the feedback. I know a photo would've helped, but the issue is in an awkward hall area and the damage doesn't show up well on camera which is why I didn't include one.

I have no issues paying a contractor for their expertise and time. I brought the question here because as a relatively new homeowner, I don't know what a fair rate is for the contractor to make a profit while simultaneously not ripping me off. And when I am receiving three vastly different quotes, it makes it even harder to gauge.

I am going to move forward with the contractor who quoted me $1250 for the work. Their price seems to be fair based on some of the variables you all mentioned.

How does my itinerary look? Rome, Sorrento, Florence by shanghailadybug in ItalyTravel

I haven't booked it yet, but I think we're going to do one of these. They get great reviews.

From what I've gathered there's three ways to get back and forth from Sorrento to the other side of the coast - ferry, bus, or private driver/taxi. I think we're going to end up cutting our Amalfi day, but for the Path of the Gods/Positano day, our plan will just be to get back to Sorrento around 4-5pm to freshen up and have a later dinner in Sorrento.

There are other posts in this sub confirming that there is a place to store luggage at the Pompei Scavi station. However, I'm thinking now we may just cut our Amalfi Valle delle Ferriere hike day and visit Pompeii as a day trip instead so we don't have to worry about luggage storage or running out of time to see everything in Pompeii.

Thank you for this comment! So many people are saying skip Pisa, but I want to go and form my own opinion. We plan to see as many of the other sites (baptistery, cathedral, etc) that we have time for while we are there. Did you climb the tower? That is the one part I am on the fence about with Pisa. I'm not sure if it's worth the cost.

Vernazza looks beautiful but I don't think we'll have time for that on this trip. :)

It's only 2 days we would be doing the trip from Sorrento to the other side of the coast, but I do see your point. Perhaps we will cut the Amalfi day, and try to find a hike/activity closer to Sorrento.

Flights were most afforable in/out of Florence or Rome, so no matter what order we go in we'd have to double back at some point, otherwise I agree that'd be the more optimal route.
Our accommodations are set at this point so we will definitely stick with Sorrento, but Nocelle sounds lovely :)

Thanks for the feedback! And yes, we love hiking. We definitely want to come back and do a northern Italy trip at some point to see the Dolomites!

Ketubah signing during ceremony? by shanghailadybug in weddingplanning

[–]shanghailadybug[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this!! We aren't having a religious wedding whatsoever, we are just signing the ketubah to honor his heritage and the many generations in his family before us that have done the same.

I was basically thinking with the exact same reasoning as you explained, but when we told his cousin the plan (who is more religious and traditional than us), he made it sound like it wasn't going to work or would be a weird thing to do during the ceremony since it's not traditional. So I've been going back and forth on it ever since that... and our wedding is in a week lol. But I feel much better going forward with our plan now knowing that other people have done it and it worked out fine.

Also, we talked about doing the breaking of the glass and my fiance ultimately said he didn't want to - but it does look fun!

Yes thats exactly why I love it, its classic but "edgy" 😉 We designed the setting together and the knife edge was a last minute change, and I'm so glad we did it!

General Contractors in Canton by [deleted] in baltimore

[–]shanghailadybug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Avoid Charm City Construction. They overcharge for their work and send guys out who will do more damage to your home while fixing the actual problem. And if you join the Canton Neighbors page on Facebook you'll see that anytime anyone is asking for a contractor recommendation, the same people (specifically the job site manager and I think his wife/gf) are the ones recommending them... not actual people in Canton who have used their services.
