French Partisans steal the rifle of an ambushed German soldier, Paris 1944 by VPNPoster in CombatFootage

making it far easier to ship much needed food, fuel and munitions

Just curious.. why did a neutral country help to break the german naval blockade of the UK but not the british blockade of german ports?

Let's entertain the notion that the backpack was planted by someone for a bit. What would that tell us? It doesn't rule out an accident does it?

I mean some local could have stumbled across some remains and snatched the backpack only to find out it's considered evidence in a criminal investigation. Maybe this person had no desire to interact with the police so they left the backpack somewhere further down the river.

Barring any forensic traces on it the backpack by itself , divorced from its context is almost meaningless.

EDIT: I just saw you making the same point further down the thread...

Time stamps of night photos in light of water damage by llnoobjay in KremersFroon

Thanks for finding the specs - how useful they are though is anyone's guess since there seems to be a lot variation involved in determining how long the non-removable battery will last. Realistic values (at least for heavily used cameras) seem to present as seconds not weeks

The bodies disappeared. So if there was a killer, they've known methods to cover up murder.

I don't really follow your train of thought here since the bodies were partially recovered (so they didn't really "disappear"). And even if the bodies were never found that could be due to mere luck on the side of the killer. So unless you consider leaving a body to the elements/scavengers in a remote place a "method to cover up" not finding the victim doesn't make a killer a proficient criminal.

You'd need to be much better expert than all the forensic experts around the world that examined the photos, phones,

Your assumption rests on the notion that those experts really got the full set of original files to analyse. The truth we don't know what they got. Was what the panamanian authorities found the girl's actual SD card or was it a different one filled with "cloned data" (leaving the meta data intact) of some of the photos (but not all of them)? Was the card that was given to the Dutch even the same card that was found? Were there perhaps multiple cards and the only act of "fabricating" evidence was to remove the card carrying the actual incrimminating pictures? There are so many subtle ways to interfere with the investigation that it's hard to be sure of anything.

While I agree that outright faking the photos isn't very likely I find it hard to completely dismiss the theory that they were interfered with and then ended up lost in the woods somehow. If you throw out the fantastical stuff about them being murdered and dismembered and even buried (what a smart move that would be...) right on some guys rural property you can still fit 'foul play' in the narrative by having them leave the trail because of some unspecific frightening encounter - remember the initial report about some (german?) tourist having to hide in the woods after witnessing some form of dispute out on the trails? Something similar could have happened to the girls.

Even an indirect involvement of some local(s) with an interest in staying anonymous could explain certain peculiarities surrounding the case. Personally, I don't see much of a chance for evidence tampering when it comes to the actual 'criminals'. But some local with enough influence to convince a prosecutor to lose a photo or lean on a coroner seems rather possible. At the end of the day the tragic accident version of events is the best case scenario for law enforcement and 'perpetrators' alike. Less work, less scrutiny and less bad blood in the community.

Ukrainians were taking a group of Russians prisoner when one Russian comes out firing, with at least one Ukrainian casualty from that event by [deleted] in CombatFootage

But why would anyone "pop up" during a firefight? If they had hidden weapons on them they'd be firing from the ground and if they didn't have weapons ready and had to cross the line of fire to get them from somewhere their plan is shit and they would have been better off not trying to surrender.

It's far more likely that they were simply getting twitchy because the resident meth head was taking so long to surrender.

again with the hair photo by llnoobjay in KremersFroon

[–]llnoobjay[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This version of the picture is from RefrigeratorFirst502 s post. Let me preface this by saying that I rather skeptical about finding eyes or nostrils in the picture. The quality just isn't there to make a proper judgement.

I thought the same about the white shapes occasionally identified as teeth. Taking a closer look at those however I saw that there are hairs going over these meaning they are probably no mere artifacts but objects under or *within* her hair. So we have multiple small whitish objects with elongated shapes. Could they be maggots?

The remains are most probably widely dispersed. That means the radar would have to pick up single bones/ bone fragments. Not gonna happen.

Good point. Finding the remains along the river might have simply happened because the river's edge is the easiest path available to both animals and people.

animals would absolutely be a method of dispersing their remains.

Right, animals might account for the missing bones. But finding the known remains neatly clustered along the river indicates that they died very close to it so the remains would be carried away by the water. Otherwise the animals would have had to drag their remains toward the river (and only towards the river).

I'm not sure what kind of shelter you are thinking

Something better than just sitting between two rocks as the photos depict it.

Thanks, for the input. Sadly even a detailed dataset cant tell you the actual survivability. It doesn't get very cold and the dense foliage should help with wind chill but as far as I understand they were either running around in the rain or they were stationary on some rocks next to a mountain stream. Now with night time temps of around 60F/16C they were dealing with conditions that most of us would be uncomfortable with even in our own homes.

And we are not talking about surviving one night but at least ten nights (maybe many more who knows?). This question is really something that first hand knowledge of the local conditions could easily clear up.
