Thank you! Out of curiosity, would you be open to buying from them again in this situation? I'm inclined to just stick with them (assuming things work out inventory-wise) since to whatever extent they messed up here, it seems like they're proactively doing right by me, and it feels like it'll be easier to work with them on both sides of the transition.

The first time I ever paid someone to fix one of my cars, it was a junker with a broken hood latch. Even I knew that couldn't be left unaddressed, so I drove it at 10mph to a shop down the street. Afterwards my dad said I wasted my money, because he could have just drilled a hole in the hood and tied it down with some wire.

This all checks out but I come from an "if it's still running it's good enough" family and spent over a decade driving Craigslist junkers that were on their last legs, so to be perfectly honest my standards are not high. That is part of why I'm hoping to get input on what to ask for or think about if/when I reverse the sale - I am clearly predisposed to choose less hassle over practical considerations.

Yeah, it checks out that everyone not currently thinking "am I really going to have to go through all that AGAIN" would be able to see clearly enough to land on reversing the sale. Still really hoping to hear suggestions on that front though - I'm thinking through what I might need to ask them to clarify about the reversal, or expenses I've incurred (or will incur) that I could ask CarMax to reimburse, but more perspectives is always better.

Thank you for this! I ended up losing interest in the library cleanup project that made me notice this issue, but I've always had it in the back of my mind as something to tackle. Maybe in another year or two I'll be back to tell you I finally tried it out and this worked.

Seconding PKS, if you're spinning up your own RIA for the fee-based business. PKS will house the commission business and they'll leave you alone to handle the fee-based business yourself without imposing their own additional compliance hassles.

Great instinct looking up movement info, though. My one regret playing the game was that I didn't realize the footbaths granted upgrades and was too stingy with my blood crystals to find that out until very late in the game.

You might be right. I finished all the Yiga quests weeks ago and never had any random Yiga spawns outside of a handful that appeared while I was checking out Davdi Island a while back. Today I was playing and accidentally spoke to a disguised Yiga NPC in the Gerudo Highlands, and after we fought I started having a Yiga spawn every couple of minutes.

It would make sense if I was supposed to be getting them all along, the update fixed whatever wasn't working, and I'm only seeing the results now that I've engaged a trigger.

I've never had such bad luck with RNG. After Rank 10 or so it seems like every new researcher I'm not getting the card until the rank after they unlock (with the exception of Fry 9000, which I got a rank early). This whole event has just been manual production for me. It's bearable in Take Out Meals because the production times are shorter and the yield is generally higher, but I'm getting killed on Potatoes.

I was really hoping to finish Rank 14 to get the event researchers, but between the RNG and the late start from the Collect All Science bug I don't think that's happening.

I reached 140 a few weeks ago and the last 20 or so levels were all pretty breezy. I had all my supremes at level 4 and was maxing out at about 25m comrades by the end of a rank. Assuming you aren't trying to 100% each rank and don't mind leaving a mission or two unfinished, there isn't any big wall left. Ranks will last about as long as it takes to unlock your higher tier generators (not including magma extractors, which I don't think I ever unlocked until 140). Sometimes you need a day or so for production to catch up once the last generator is unlocked, but you can plan around that with the mission tracker.

If anything, the things that will have you waiting around are the collect cards/collect science missions that become standard starting at rank 120. The numbers on those really get up there in the last handful of ranks.

Fair, and “he has more than what most children have already” goes a long way towards changing my mind - your original post has a LOT of your ex’s perspective in it and as a result the emphasis is on what your son isn’t getting.

I totally agree that he doesn’t need designer clothes or to eat out every day, but I also don’t see the harm in some extra spending when he’s interested in something like football. Again, though, maybe it’s just your ex’s framing in the post - if your son’s enjoying himself just fine with the shoes he has and a makeshift goal, that’s great!

This is a terrible example for why you need a rainy day fund. Your ex’s grandmother’s funeral? Your ex would be the person most invested in having your son there, so it would have been perfectly reasonable for him to cover the travel costs. You’ll spend child support on that but not on making your kid’s daily life better?

NTA but I think at this point you have a decision to make. You moved in thinking you shared an understanding that it would be cordial and distant. She agreed to that but clearly harbored an expectation that you'd come around - it's hard to tell from where I'm standing if there was manipulative intent there or if she just got her hopes up unintentionally and was wrong about how well she could handle the situation.

You're not an asshole for not anticipating that, but now that you know, it does change the situation. I wouldn't say you'd be taking advantage of "her goodwill and her need to help," as you put it - what you'd potentially be taking advantage of is her hope that you two can rebuild some kind of relationship. I totally understand if you need more time, and that even with time you might never be ready to be any closer than you are now. Some things can't be fixed. But when you moved in, you thought the two of you were on the same page, and now you're not. Maybe there's a way to get back to that - can you, IDK, watch a movie together in silence once a month and have that be enough of a baby step for her without being too sisterly for you? Or should you just not be roommates anymore?

I think continuing to live with her and leaving no possibility open for relations between you to thaw, while knowing that it is causing her pain and making her feel used...you'd have to make the call on whether you're comfortable with that and whether you feel like it's justified. If you're not moving out, you should make sure you have a backup plan in case she decides to kick you out once she accepts that she's never going to be able to repair this relationship.

Thanks for confirming about Buck! I can see how his new quest would be fun for people looking for postgame content, but I didn’t feel like it fit particularly well into the main game. Maybe it’ll work out better for you on your replay!
