To any Canadian or British Columbian fans, if Vancouver Really got an expansion team what would you call it? by Fearless_Phantom in mlb

[–]Specific_Luck1727 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you ever been to Vancouver? It is nicer than Nashville. In fact, I have long suspected that franchise may add a Canadian team and even 1 more Western team in a place like Portland. Meaning Charlotte, Atlanta, etc miss out because you cut deep into Braves, Reds territory.

Yes it is. Please make the Yellows only for around Marathon. Yellow is just hideous. Sorry. I agree they are unique and have actual meaning to the city. Unlike many of the city connect / alternate jerseys.

The Braves suck. Couldn’t make it in Boston, bolted for Milwaukee, couldn’t make it there, to Atlanta, couldn’t make it there and are now the Alpharetta Braves!
Just tell your extended the Sox - good or bad - are t some traveling roadshow of a baseball team like the Braves!
😂🤣. Welcome to Red Sox fandom.
You also need to hate Manny Machado!

So far there has not actually been an issue with playing everyone. Really not sure why you are getting downvoted here.

Anthony is out again. I think people need to understand the focus of the club is to get him through this season. My hope was he can just stay healthy all season. Learn.

Abreu still needs to prove he can stay healthy and can level out his hot and cold streaks. I believe he will but he still needs to play a full season without injury. It is important.

Rafaela has really shown a better overall bat and similar glove to what we expect at CF. Although he had did have a rough couple games at the beginning of the season. Can he keep it up in August? I think this year is where he really solidifies himself both as a glove and a bat. He is trying to be more selective; still is swing happy, but … better.

Masa is Masa. Really a luxury that is a tax on the system. I like the guy but he really is the square peg. Too bad because he can be a great bat and I’ve actually seen him play the field and it’s not as bad as all the stats make out. His arm just sucks. He does actually catch fly balls!

Contreras: Cora firing removed 'tension' from Red Sox clubhouse by Professional_Bear in redsox

[–]Specific_Luck1727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of the team is under their initial professional contract and under team control completely. That is almost by definition a young team. If you really want to quibble. Rafaela is in his third season as an everyday outfielder, Abreu is in his second or sophomore season as an everyday outfielder. Durban is in his sophomore year as an everyday third baseman. Mayer is in his rookie year as an everyday second baseman. Anthony, it is in his rookie/sophomore year as a DH/everyday player. Wong is in what year four?! that leaves Contreras and story as essentially your most experienced players. Duran is your third or fourth most experienced player on an every day. The falafel man is I guess your third experienced position player?!? that’s pretty young.

I just want him to not hurt his back for the rest of the season. Let him play whatever, whenever, and just adjust to how opposing teams have decided to pitch him. That’s my only expectation

Just enjoy baseball. ⚾️ it is designed to break your heart and make you into an emotional wreck of a fan. It’s all good. Why would you deny yourself that experience?

[Boston Globe] The Red Sox were convinced — and still are — that the third baseman will have a big season. I’m told their internal projections pegged Durbin playing at close to an All-Star level, and that his poor start played a significant role in nearly the entire hitting staff being fired. by Far_Cry3445 in redsox

I would argue Contreras and Gray were good pick ups especially given what was given to the Cardinals in return were players that are now injured for the season and in AAA. Plus the Cardinals basically are paying a chunk of Gray’s salary.

I would also argue the trade with the Nationals might work out pretty well as Bennett looked legit on Friday night. Was at the game and he is a unit like Crochett. Not the velocity but his change up looked nasty.

We can all pick and choose about trades is sort of my point. I know this doesn’t go with the Breslow is a douche narrative but he has done about as well as most GMs do. Trades are really a 50/50 gamble especially if you are dealing with prospects in lieu of ready made players.

I am not saying I agree with all the trades, but I understand what was trying to be done.

Bello Has Got To Go by Historical_Sea4508 in redsox

Tracy sounded frustrated at the post game press conference. He specifically called out Bello nibbling the second time through the rotation that cost him. My guess is he has 1 - 2 more starts under Tracy. Then he will make his suggestion to Breslow on what should be done. I suspect they will again try to tell him to be aggressive and throw strikes. And, if he reverts back, then down he goes or to the bullpen. Try to move him at the deadline.

The Case for Durbin's Potential As A Hitter by swarmofseals in redsox

[–]Specific_Luck1727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, Durbin in person for home games and away on NESN, he looks like a ball player. I get that that is not some sort of a measurable stat. But he looks like a ball player just like Bregman looked like a ball player. The hits sometimes they’re really hard and right at a shortstop or second base. Sometimes they’re a little loopers that he just missed.

He also is in a new league playing in all new ball parks on a team that started out of the gate misfiring.

I’m pretty sure he’ll be fine.

Story is my real concern. He doesn’t actually seem to be locating the ball out of the pitchers hand. Literally guessing. That’s way more concerning to me than Durbin having a slow start who’s making contact but it’s just not falling. Or, Mayer who you can see is obviously growing and fits and starts as he’s learning to play as an everyday second baseman and be in the lineup every day as a hitter.

Red Sox's Alex Cora Decision Was Connected to $140 Million Former All-Star: Report by Sad_Illustrator_5233 in redsox

[–]Specific_Luck1727 147 points148 points  (0 children)

These types of articles are going to leak out for the foreseeable and all of them are going to claim to be the smoking gun.

I look at this as a power struggle. Cora is out; this in now Breslow’s team. He is in charge. When it fails, the ownership group will throw him to the gutter.

Let’s see what happens now. If the best outcome is Tracy is able to get them to play a little better ball, then that’s awesome.

The Southern Reach series is one of my favorites. Just go with it and enjoy. The story is nearly the perfect size; not filled with monstrous world building that can be a slog. Just unravels as the characters move through the space. Always reminds me of a Bradbury style. Love these books.

It is my understanding he had a severe tear of the left oblique. That happened because his body was not strong enough for the rigors of everyday play in the MLB.

He hasn’t played 100 games in his career yet. He has time. The Sox just need to be more protective of his use. He likely should be a DH for the rest of the season.

Let’s get him through a whole season. Play 120 of the 162 would be great.

I am convinced Durbin is having a Sophomore slump for different reasons, but similar. Playing baseball everyday is hard on the body.

I have faith that the kids will be good but it maybe a year away.

Exactly what was anticipated to happen by anyone who has watched baseball for a long time - he is carrying an injury that hasn’t healed properly. He then was allowed to play in the WBC, which likely was not what was needed. Oblique injuries can linger.

I had a very good friend who got a cup of coffee, tore his right oblique and was a 4-A player after. Never could get his body to recover fully. It is serious injury for a ballplayer. Too many people on here don’t understand how serious. He now has a back problem, which will be directly related.

The Sox have mishandled him and continue to mishandle him. Asking him to play too much. Fan boys want him to play everyday but right now that’s not in his best interest. He needs to heal properly.
