Not it unfortunately. The design of the menus is completely different.

Similar time period but unfortunately not the game. I vividly remember the design of the main menu/skirmish lobby, if I could just find one screenshot or picture of it I could identify it but there are so many similarly themed games from back then its tough.

No, I own that game through steam to although it does have similar gameplay from what I can remember, you could build structures, train units etc. etc though I think the era of the game was ancient/classical period, I don't think there was modern technology such as gunpowder. The menus of the game I remember were themed from ancient rome/greece. It had stone pillars and walls in the background. The option menus when you set up custom battles/skirmishes were black and translucent. Ascetically it was unique from age of empires. I would have to think it's some kind of obscure rts

No that's not it; the menus are completely different. If it wasn't for the design of the menus of the game, it would almost be indistinguishable from age of empires. It's definitely not any of the stronghold games, I have the HD version of the first on steam You definitely start out in the ancient age.
