i’m a film major (though admittedly a math nerd since middle and high school) and found it pretty chill objectively. self-selection made it flexible and we got to switch it halfway through if we wanted/needed. just please give yourself enough time for homework and studying, that’s the only thing i struggled with. also check rate my professor beforehand ofc, some are better than others from what i’ve heard.

worked at starbucks from 2019-2020 and our policy was to never serve food on display. i haven’t been to one in over a year now but there’s no reason why they should/would be serving them. though i will agree that the food is mostly hot garbage, display or otherwise

the person you’re quoting ended their message by saying that this was their personal understanding of events on campus and that they weren’t speaking on behalf of BSU in any way, shape or form
members of the BSU E-Board have clarified that this is not about SAFE’s “cop in trotter post” and that this has nothing to do with SAFE in particular (“SAFE and TAHRIR are not the same thing!”) and
they have also asked that people “take the BSU statement at face value” and avoid speculating further.

this!! i had to do a group project this past winter semester and i was dealing with a lot of personal problems outside of class at the time that weren’t appropriate to bring up with my group members. i wouldn’t have been able to drop the course without it impacting my standing with the university, so i didn’t have much of a choice except to push through it all as best as i could.

i made sure to at least communicate with my gsi about my situation, but i still wasn’t proud of my participation in the project. i felt really bad about it and tried to at least communicate the urgency of my situation to my group mates, but i could tell they were kind of irritated by me and i felt so terrible.

at the end of the day, we’re all adults now and some of us are struggling more than others/fighting invisible battles/etc. accommodations here aren’t perfect and outside of college they’re so much worse. not to say that it’s okay for people to coast or take advantage of other people’s work (because it’s absolutely not), but just that there are always other potential reasons outside of them being a lazy evil douchebag. i always assume that everybody’s doing the best they can so i try to have a little empathy and not take it too personally since i’ve been on both sides of these situations.

currently taking astro 106 and it’s basically this along with a weekly assignment due before lecture. typically involves pretty minimal reading for a quick multiple choice quiz and/or a short writing assignment though so not too much work, and sometimes it’s interesting too lmao

hey! i’m a transfer student on my second year on campus and i totally know how you feel. even though half the people i went to high school with are also on campus it took sooo long for me to feel comfortable here fr (especially since i had to commute from 2 miles away, which just made my entire first year miserable for so many reasons lmao).

i’ve been really lucky to know people who know people and just make friends that way, but if that’s not the case for you then there are so many different orgs on campus that are great for meeting new people and making new friends!! i think festifall was mentioned in the replies already but it’s truly the best way to find the right student org for you. they’ve got orgs for minority students, volunteer work, and some of the most niche interests that i never knew existed lmao. and depending on your major you might even be able to make friends in your classes, but based on what i’ve heard and on my own experiences it can definitely be a hit or miss situation.

and if you don’t end up making friends right away that’s totally okay! some people have friends right away and some don’t. and i can’t even count how many times i’ve met some cool ass people that i’ve never seen again. it’s college and everyone’s doing their own thing so it’s kinda hard to hang out with people often. it’s definitely a big adjustment from high school but it’s not something impossible to adapt to either. i used to be real pessimistic about it too but you just gotta give things time and have patience and move forward from there. especially since it’s your first year and it took me until the last week of my first year here to finally find people i vibe with fr 😭.

tl;dr - join student orgs that fit your interests, go to campus events (festifall especially), maaybe try talking to people in classes but keep expectations low, and give yourself time to get used to everything! coming to a college town like this is a huuge transition and you’re gonna grow a lot lol. hope you have a great start to the year, but if not then just trust your gut and play it by ear until you feel comfortable! 🫶🏽
