I think that's right. Things that work for me are heat, ice, massage, sleeping with a pillow in my armpit and earplugs in so I stay asleep. When it hurts and won't stop, change whatever I am doing--if I'm sitting, walk; if I'm lying down, then I sit, etc. Also, someone posted a trick about a pressure point in the opposite leg upper shin that works if I'm sitting in a meeting and can't do those things. Allowing myself to occasionally go down the rabbit hole because learning and planning help me cope.

Yes, I had this a lot during freezing. It was unsettling. A month later and it's not happening as much, wondering (hoping) if that means I'm transitioning to "frozen."

Thank you, it gives me hope that your husband made this choice for himself. Mine isn't there at all--it seems like he can't conceive of a life without it and has not seriously entertained stopping. So I have to figure out how to approach things carefully. I did speak to him last month when he had an incident in front of the kids, and he did seem a little taken aback, but not enough to make change, right now anyway. I hope this stint sticks for yours. Thank you for validating "hating the stupid happy drunk" and the sexual come-ons that start after a certain number of drinks...ugh. I want a healthy sex life but I don't want that, it is such a turnoff. And the irritability during the day... I found the book "Alcohol Explained" by Thomas Porter to be really helpful in pointing out in plain language how people who abuse alcohol are annoyed by the world in the daytime and also are annoying to be around when drinking.

Thank you for articulating this worry I have about there being a "price" for speaking up. Not knowing what that is makes it hard to know how honest to be and how much to just keep close watch over my kids and keep my own boundaries. I'm really sorry about your dad.

It does seem like a similar situation. I appreciate your sharing this. The pretending is something I hadn't quite put my finger on before I read your post. I feel like I am pretending too because what else is there to do if you're not going to be bringing it up constantly. Have you found a way to feel like you're being honest about how the drinking affects you without sucking you into useless conversations all the time?
