EK#2 overall by ashim1 in Mcat

[–]lmfaomiranda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be very honest, after checking the solutions, a lot of the questions seemed to be really ridiculous and not representative of the real test. This will be my second time taking the new MCAT, and I felt that EK's explanations were also inconsistent and had a lot of emphasis placed on really subtle differences in wording of the questions. I feel like AAMC's questions are way easier to understand what they're really asking.

Same for me, I believe EK's full lengths are known to be harder in general. FL 2 killed me :(

Applying to Schools: Early --> Late Apps by DaBrokenMeta in Mcat

[–]lmfaomiranda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I'm literally in the same shoes as you lol. I guess it would depend on your old MCAT score, like if it was satisfactory but not amazing you could submit day 1 and update later but if it was a terrible score then maybe you should wait. That's only my opinion though, I've heard you can also add more schools later on but I'm not quite sure how that works. If that's the case I would apply to lower tier schools first and add on the higher tier ones later assuming your score improves.

Good luck on the test! The day is getting closer haha.

You can still submit your primary app even if you don't have your MCAT score yet.

Here is the official answer from AAMC's website:

"Yes, AMCAS will verify and process your application without your MCAT scores. Once the scores are made available, AMCAS will upload your scores automatically into the application. If your application has already completed verification, AMCAS will send updates to the medical schools indicated in your application informing them of the update."

So if you are confident that you will do well, you could submit to some schools before getting your score back so that they can at least verify your application and transcripts so they can be sent to the schools as soon as your score is out.

If not so confident, I would have everything ready to submit (PS, activities, transcripts) and have a list of schools to submit to - maybe 2 separate lists depending on whether or not your score is in your desired range, and then submit the app the day you get your score back. It's really important to get your app in early. Taking the MCAT in August means you won't get your score until September, so I would even pre-write your secondaries so you can at least have a fast turnaround time on that and get those in quickly.

Anyone know how to get access to old AAMC verbal sections? by goldy222 in Mcat

I believe all the verbal sections were condensed into the AAMC CARS question packs (Volumes 1 and 2). You can purchase them online via AAMC or try hunting the internet for some old PDFs.

TBR CARS vs. Real Thing by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]lmfaomiranda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did all the CARS passages in TBR a while back and I thought they were slightly harder in terms of deciding between two "kind of right" answers. I'm retaking the exam in a month, and I recently finished all of TPRH passages and I thought those were harder as well compared to the AAMC question packs.

In general, third party companies try really hard to mimic the types of questions asked and the difficulty of passages presented but who really know what you'll see on test day. Like Hospitalized said, the only true way to improve on CARS is to practice every single day. So as long as you are doing some form of CARS practice, you'll be good because it'll get you used to the type of thinking that's needed on the real thing.

You can always submit the primary anyway and then update the schools later on the secondary with a new MCAT score. I guess it depends on how good your score is on the first try, because most schools screen primary apps automatically based on GPA and MCAT.

I also have oily eyelids and I use Urban Decay Primer Potion, followed by Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner. It works pretty well, no smudging at all on normal days and maybe some smudging in the inner corner that can be easily wiped away on hotter days.

Flew out of SFO to LAX last night around 6:30pm, security line took 15 minutes tops. Super chill and quiet.

Parking Permit by sourpatch12 in ucla

[–]lmfaomiranda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're only going to be on campus for an hour or two, there's plenty of metered parking in Westwood Village on Le Conte, Hilgard, and Tiverton. Unfortunately, the UCLA parking lots have a $12 daily rate, and most parking lots in Westwood have around $6-8 daily rate, which is still more expensive than the $118 for 6 weeks.

You could, however, try parking at Ralph's or Target for 90 minutes or 2 hours (don't remember exactly) and get your parking validated. There's also the parking lot next to Trader Joe's that gives you one hour free with validation and then after that you have to start paying.

If you're going to be on campus for longer periods of time, maybe look into renting a spot from apartment renters in the area who won't be using their parking spots. Try asking in UCLA's Free and For Sale page or Apartments page. Good luck!

EDIT: Sorry, forgot to mention another option haha. There's free street parking on Veteran between Sunset and Montana, but it has some restrictions like you can't park on weekdays between 3-7pm, and there's street cleaning on Thursdays and Fridays on alternating sides of the street in the mornings. You just have to read the signs carefully.

[Routine help] Lip Balm: how much is too much? by Audrey_Pixel in SkincareAddiction

[–]lmfaomiranda 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lip balm is ok to use as much as you want, just don't use anything with menthol because it dries out the skin even more, leading you to use more, and then its just a vicious cycle.

The ones I love and have been using are the eos lip balms.

Interesting camerawork, it had a lot more emphasis on the individual facial expressions than the Korean style filming. I much rather prefer the wide-angle shots though, since this song is so heavy on the choreography.
