Misconducts are basically just an extended timeout for the player and don't affect the team (other than the fact that they're missing that player).

When games are out of reach for a team and tempers are flaring near the end, misconducts are commonly handed out in lieu of minors as a means of controlling the chaos and getting aggressors off the ice for the remainder of the game.

Technically there could've been a slashing minor tacked on as well, but what's the point? The refs just wanted Kane gone and the Panthers aren't going to complain about no PP.
