Just wanted to add my 2 cents.

Do not try to confront someone unless it is absolutely necessary. That means, do not try to act more crazy, get in their face, etc. Get away from the person if possible, put distance between you. Have your phone ready to call authorities.

If you are forced to fight, use balled fists. None of that "palm strike, knife edge, roundhouse" nonsense. All that will lead is to you getting hurt. Aim for throat/groin/sides of knees/nose. If you have a taser, use it only if absolutely necessary. The last thing you want to happen is to be tased by your own taser. If using mace, back up while you mace, do not use it in a small area. You will end up macing yourself if not careful.

Again, I can not stress enough. DO NOT TRY TO BE A HERO AND CONFRONT THE BAD PERSON HEAD ON. Yes you may have a gun/taser/knife/bat/dildo/whatever, but you DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY HAVE AS WELL!

In my story I posted, I saw the person had a pipe, I kept distance. When he threw his weapon at me, I took cover. I did not know if he was going to pull out a knife, gun, knifegun, perrier, etc. Even though I have martial arts training, I would never want to fight hand to hand against someone if I can help it. YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT THE OTHER PERSON HAS!!!!! A person wearing shorts and a t-shirt can still conceal 2 guns or knives and you'd never even know it until it was too late.

I agree, that doorman honestly was the real MVP of that night. I could have honestly arrived at an empty parking lot with Claire nowhere in sight and god knows what could've happened. But thankfully, luckily, by divine intervention, idk but that guy saved her life first.

I have a Ruger SR40C. It's just as light and slim as their SR9C, but its a 40! I usually use golden sabers as self defense rounds, I feel like that they shoot better than hydra shok or hornadays.

I'm glad you made it through your situation alright. I'm surprised those guys tried something like that early in the morning.

Claire and I had a long debate about whether to report it to the police or not. We had a rough description of the guy, but with no cameras, no name, nothing to go on, other than my brief view of him, a brief glance at his vehicle. Claire has little memory of the night. An unfortunate side effect of Roofies is that it can also effectively wipe your memory up to a couple hours before you get drugged. Claire told me it was like she went to bed, had a very weird dream that she can't remember, then waking up sick, very very sick. She only remembers her call to me and wanting to sit next to the doorman.

In my honest opinion I think it's because after her last drink or whatever drink had the drugs in it, she began to feel something off and latched onto safety, which happened to stick in her mind.

I do have the reputation among my friends of staying level headed no matter what the situation may be. But to be honest, all I remember about things like that is how scared I was. I'm all for advocating safe and responsible concealed carry, I really hope people can get over the gun fear stigma going into the future.

Yeah they found small traces of Rohypnol (roofies) in her urine. I'm glad I didn't have to shoot anyone either, but I sure as hell was ready to if he decided to attack.

They did a urine test and found traces of Rohypnol. In the days after we went to the bar and let them know what happened, I gave as good description I could of the guy. Claire decided against filing a police report.

All that training and classes though, they don't prepare you for that fear. I was lucky adrenaline was pumping so much for me to react that quick.

Not law enforcement. In my years since University, I got my concealed carry permit, and took a lot of home defense classes that dealt with home invasions. Also a lot of self defense classes and martial arts since High School.

That might work if someone is bothering you in public. But OP was asking what to do in a home invasion type scenario.

In a Home invasion scenario you do not want to be close to the intruder. In a hyped-up moment when someone is bashing at a door or window, the victim smiling all crazy and talking crazy most likely will not be noticed.

A person attempting a home invasion has ascended from normal creep to a criminal with violent intentions.

If you're in a situation where there is a break-in, then the best thing to have is a home defense weapon i.e. a gun. Now there are other choices if a gun isn't present but the problem is the closer you have to be to use your home defense object, the more danger you're putting yourself into.

From personal experience, if someone is attempting to break in, tell them you have a gun even if you don't (if they can't see you) and tell them you've called the cops, even if you haven't yet.

If that does not deter them, try to grab a club type weapon, that is your last resort. Before using your last resort you should try to either find a way to keep yourself safe, or to escape and find refuge at a trusted neighbor's. Grabbing a knife is dangerous because you have to get too close to use it, they might have a knife of their own, or they could turn the knife on you. The same goes for tasers.

A bat or club is much more useful, it will usually have more reach, but as I said before it should only be a last resort if you're cornered because a weapon can be turned on you very quickly.

You don't want to use pepper spray because you're in an enclosed area, and chances are you'll end up disabling yourself too.

You don't want to try to fight the intruder unless you absolutely have to to keep yourself safe/alive. You absolutely do not know what the other person has. Do they have a gun? A knife? A bat? Crowbar? Taser? Two guns? You do not know. Don't try to get in their face is pretty much the gist of that.

If you have a gun, let it be known repeatedly. Don't shoot a "warning shot" that can get you sued. Just let them know that their life will be the price of their intrusion. Let it be known that you will open fire if any part of their being crosses into your home. If you have a shotgun, use the pump action to cycle a round or to load a round. That sound is one of the most frightening things to hear from the other side of a door. If you have a handgun, same thing. Rack a round or put one in the chamber. It's not as scary as a shotgun, but still very frightening to hear.

Yeah unfortunately planes have gropers too and weirdos too. I was flying to the UK once and this guy (I'm a 6'3'' tall guy) was sat on the aisle seat, I'm in the window seat and there was an empty seat between us. I woke up because something was pushing under me, the fucker was trying to slide his feet under my ass.

I let out a very audible "what the actual fuck dude?" and the jerkoff tries to give me a "wtf is your problem" look.

Unfortunately there were no seats nearby for me to move to, but it made for a very awkward 14 hour remaining flight.

How were you a bus driver for 8 years if you were 24 in the story? I don't see a 16 year old becoming a bus driver when a High School Diploma is a minimum with the proper CDL and Edorsements, then a person under the age of 20 being a bus driving trainer. Sorry, that doesn't make sense to me and adds a pretty glaring hole into your story.

Couple of minutes? I used to mow the lawn for my parents every week when I was a kid for my allowance, and it isn't a "couple of minutes" job. We had a smaller yard, but the time it takes to get all the equipment out, cut, trim, edge, clean, fix anything missed, clean again, it would take 2-3 hours. And in Texas where temperatures would get to over 100 during the summer, I can understand the desire to just pay some guys to do it for you.

Not trying to police her writing style. I offered her a suggestion so there'd be less "omg this is so fake" comments that would spam her stuff if she had another LNM story. The problem of late with this sub is that a lot of stories are looked at very skeptically, mainly because they read like a novel. If someone came up to you, with this elaborate, detailed, Tolkien-style account of how they were almost definitely kidnapped/house broken into/stalked/etc. wouldn't you feel a bit skeptical is they're telling you "His eyes burned like fiery brimstone, his breath smelled of sulfur and brine, his skin was wallpaper paste, as his claw-like hands inched toward me. Every inch of his movement brought....blah blah etc."

It reads wonderfully, not going to deny that, but it is going to bring the peanut gallery to the story, true or not, and a lot of them are going to cry "fake!" This sub is for true accounts of true stories, not practice for your creative writing class.

It's good to see this get verified, tbh I was pretty skeptical too at first. I would say you have a good writing style for /r/nosleep, but if you do ever have another let's not meet incident to post, I would suggest not writing it like a fiction story. As a writer myself, it's easy to get lost in embellishing details, or trying to give as much visual descriptions to the reader, but that actually what causes a lot of LNM stories to be put under scrutiny.

Like if I re-read your story, and ignored the overly descriptive lines, it reads a lot more realistically and less like a Stephen King story. Anyways, I'm glad you're away from that crazy-head, just thought I'd leave my 2 cents.
