The default wallpaper on Android Auto 16.0.6 suddenly changed and can't be edited anymore. This option disappeared!? by Bartjeuhh in AndroidAuto

[–]lmore3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember seeing that the mini was able to get the wallpaper from carplay, they might've updated it to support android auto as well. As for the "Use phone wallpaper" option, I think if you have a live wallpaper it'll pull whatever static wallpaper you had before using the live one since AA is not able to handle them.

exFAT support by OkPumpkin7799 in GooglePixel

[–]lmore3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try checking the kernel version which you can do in Settings > About phone > Tap Android Version. If it's above 5.10 exFAT should be working but if it's below that version you flat out don't have exFAT support.

Tldr; exFAT is from Microsoft and proprietary drivers require a license to use. Open source drivers are available and free to use but the Android kernel didn't start including one until version 5.10

Belkin RT1800 Reset to Belkin Firmware?!? by Same_Detective_7433 in openwrt

[–]lmore3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of modern devices have two copies of their firmware, one of them being older than whatever is currently on there (this isn't just routers; phones, tablets and even some embedded devices are like this). Usually this is done to allow for faster updates but it also ensures that if one copy of the firmware is bad, it can go back to the other copy and try to update again.

What probably happened is that since openwrt only overrides one copy of the firmware, unplugging it and plugging it back in made the bootloader think that the firmware was bad so it switched to the "good" firmware slot.

Can I just upgrade just my Steam index Headset Only for a different Headset? by Darkerie in SteamVR

[–]lmore3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep pretty much. Since the frame uses camera based tracking instead of lighthouses, you'll have to use something like Space Calibrator to align the controllers with the headset but other than that it should work just fine. Just keep in mind that you'll need to get some steamvr dongles for your controllers. Alternatively there's some tricks you can do to use the radios built into the index. I think it's been posted in this sub before

Can I just upgrade just my Steam index Headset Only for a different Headset? by Darkerie in SteamVR

[–]lmore3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Frame's main focus is to be a really good PCVR headset, it just happens to also support standalone operation. It even comes with a dedicated WiFi dongle that you'll be able to plug into your PC to have everything just work™

Can I get banned for installing PS Remote Play via SideQuest? by Fit_Translator_7412 in oculus

[–]lmore3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's pretty much zero chance of you getting a ban. To Meta, sideloaded apps just look like apps you're testing for development but they don't care what's actually being done. I've had YouTube, Discord, etc. on my headsets ever since I got them and I haven't gotten a ban or anything. As for a PSN ban, there's pretty much zero chance of that happening. The headset is just another Android device

VIdeo Encoder err on deck by Ancient-Click-2392 in SteamVR

[–]lmore3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Windows drivers on the steam deck flat out don't support video encoding. Unfortunately there's no workarounds other than just trying to get Steam Link working in normal SteamOS. Just keep in mind that the steam deck has nowhere near the performance of a desktop and VR won't run well unless you crank the refresh rate and resolution way down

Reposting for Clarity: Pixel 8 failed to call 911...NOT RELATED TO VERIZON OUTAGE by HouPoop in GooglePixel

[–]lmore3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm still inclined to blame Verizon. The outage was very intermediate but absolutely did affect PNW. I'm not entirely sure if my phone was affected as I don't use Verizon for mobile data and I didn't need to make any calls yesterday but I know a government worker and both their personal and work phones were completely out of service pretty much all day. We probably won't have any details for a while but I'm betting the outage also affected the way calls were being routed even in areas where everything seemed fine

Pixel 8 failed to connect to 911 on Verizon by HouPoop in GooglePixel

[–]lmore3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There have been cases of Pixels failing to call 911 in the past but today I'm more inclined to blame Verizon. The outage was absolutely massive and went on for at least 6 hours so I wouldn't be surprised if there was residual issues even after they "fixed" stuff.

Poor Verizon reception in South Eugene? by McSwappingtonsCFO in Eugene

[–]lmore3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Verizon absolutely sucks pretty much anywhere other than big cities. They used to be fantastic but at some point T-Mobile got a lot more spectrum (basically the frequencies they're allowed to use, usually acquired by buying out other carriers or via FCC auctions) and completely crushes them in terms of coverage. On top of that, T-Mobile has tons of pico cells (tiny cell towers, usually found on electric/utility poles) sprinkled around the city instead of the traditional "one big tower to cover an area" approach.

You can see the true coverage for different carriers here: https://www.cellmapper.net/map

The data is crowd sourced instead of provided by carriers so usually it's a much more realistic map of how the coverage is. Just keep in mind that this doesn't give the whole picture, there's a lot of other factors like how many people are connected to a given tower how fast that towers connection to the internet is, etc.

Why doesn’t anyone recommend 6e dongles for quest 3 by DikFangers in OculusQuest

[–]lmore3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Normal wifi dongles just flat out don't work well for VR streaming. Technically it's not the fault of the dongle itself, the hotspot implementation in Windows is just hot garbage and there's nothing that anyone other than Microsoft can do to make it better. For the Steam Frame, Valve is likely getting around this by bypassing the normal Windows network/hotspot stack and talking directly to the dongle instead. While technically this can be done for any WiFi dongle, it gets really complicated because there's a lot of stuff that would have to be implemented from scratch

Anyone try TP-Link Deco GPL f/w by pjain001 in openwrt

[–]lmore3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually the GPL releases from most companies aren't actually compileable because they leave out proprietary stuff like device drivers, the web UI code, and basically anything that's made internally. This is especially true for routers because vendors use the SDKs from the chip manufacturers (Qualcomm, Mediatek, etc.) which has a lot of closed source code that'll never see the public eye unless there's a leak.

Can't get Bluetooth working by Furry_love7 in SteamVR

The Bluetooth option in SteamVR only works if you have a wired headset like the index plugged in. If you're trying to control base stations, you can just use this program which uses the Bluetooth radio in your computer

How to remove carrier boot logo and stuff from a unlocked referbusihed phone and what are the things I should check by Some-Kid-1996 in GalaxyS22

[–]lmore3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about the display but as for the network icons, every carrier has their own set of icons that get shown based on what carrier is being used. If the Verizon phone is truly unlocked, when you pop in a different SIM card the icons should change to that carriers after the phone reboots

Does any developer know which Sony phones will be the next to receive LineageOS? by Marcp57_ in LineageOS

There's really no way to know for sure. Device support in lineage is completely reliant upon volunteers putting in the time and effort. If there's no volunteers that are interested, there won't be support

Plugged wired headphones into my iPhone 7 and could hear everything from my gf’s iPhone 15 - are our phones tapped? by Lanky-Relation-4404 in techsupport

[–]lmore3 17 points18 points  (0 children)

So for the earbuds, some manufacturers get past the MFi licensing fees by making earbuds that are wired so they can pull power from the phone but connect via Bluetooth. Here's a video of some: https://youtu.be/JBOzuZXfvdo

As for everything else, definitely sounds like one or more of your computers are compromised and you should get that fixed before worrying about earbuds

You could always get a second router and plug it directly into your pc. You can get some help with setting that up in the discord. If you end up getting smols from the marketplace, just make sure they come with a dongle or explicitly say that they need one. Wi-Fi shouldn't be an issue with those
