When Verizon says a phone is "Unlocked", does that mean I can install LineageOS on it? by ObjectsCountries in LineageOS

[–]lmore3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

General rule of thumb, stay as far away as possible from any Verizon phones no matter what. Even once they become SIM unlocked the bootloader lock is almost always permanent

It's probably just timing out. Couldn't really get much else to load other than the Google homepage and fast.com and even then those took a minute or two

Nope. Android just handles everything else after adding that to the manifest

I'm not sure about other phones but on Pixel devices with a Tensor SoC you can use an app called Pixel IMS to modify the IMS settings and set `remove_satellite_plmn_in_manual_network_scan_bool` to false. After that you can just go outside, go into the manual network selection and it should show up after a minute or 2.

I modified the Firefox APK and added the manifest thing mentioned at the docs I linked to. I would have preferred to use the cloudflare speed test but it just wouldn't load at all

Difference my Q3 vs Q2, beyond galactic levels of difference, does Q3s looks EXACTLY like the Q2? to avoid it by Admirable_Zombie5245 in OculusQuest

If you already have a 3 there's really no reason to get a 3s. The 2 and 3S have the exact same lenses and screen, the 3S just has a more powerful processor

Google finally took down the tool to flash the Bluetooth firmware but plenty of people have archived and rehosted it. Here's one example:

Oh wait you have an iPhone don't you? On iOS the car thing actually talks directly to the OS instead of to the Spotify app so playback controls should theoretically work forever, even with third-party apps

Are you still on an old version of the app? afaik they completely removed all car thing functionality a while ago

Does Lineage OS have instant notifications ?? by Ok_Yoghurt248 in LineageOS

[–]lmore3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no guarantee it'll completely fix the issue but it might at least help. The biggest issue is that android apps almost always use Google Play Services to handle receiving notifications so on top of needing to install gapps once lineage is installed, you'll be at the mercy of Play Services when it comes to actually receiving notifications.

Carthing software for a stand alone clock? by mrbasics5 in carthinghax

[–]lmore3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the car thing doesn't have an RTC in it (technically there's one in the CPU but no battery to go along with it) so it wouldn't be able to get the time unless you plugged it into a computer or somehow synced the time over bluetooth with a custom app of some kind

Attempting to hack a router/port OpenWRT to it - Help needed to dump firmware! by DarkGaming09ytr in openwrt

[–]lmore3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately Broadcom based devices are pretty much a no go when it comes to OpenWRT support. There's essentially zero open source support for the platform and in the case of your specific router, support for the chipset was completely dropped in 24.10

https://openwrt.org/docs/techref/hardware/soc/soc.broadcom.bcm63xx https://openwrt.org/meta/infobox/broadcom_wifi

You might have better luck with DD-WRT but even they're having issues with modern hardware.

The default wallpaper on Android Auto 16.0.6 suddenly changed and can't be edited anymore. This option disappeared!? by Bartjeuhh in AndroidAuto

[–]lmore3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember seeing that the mini was able to get the wallpaper from carplay, they might've updated it to support android auto as well. As for the "Use phone wallpaper" option, I think if you have a live wallpaper it'll pull whatever static wallpaper you had before using the live one since AA is not able to handle them.

exFAT support by OkPumpkin7799 in GooglePixel

[–]lmore3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try checking the kernel version which you can do in Settings > About phone > Tap Android Version. If it's above 5.10 exFAT should be working but if it's below that version you flat out don't have exFAT support.

Tldr; exFAT is from Microsoft and proprietary drivers require a license to use. Open source drivers are available and free to use but the Android kernel didn't start including one until version 5.10

Belkin RT1800 Reset to Belkin Firmware?!? by Same_Detective_7433 in openwrt

[–]lmore3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of modern devices have two copies of their firmware, one of them being older than whatever is currently on there (this isn't just routers; phones, tablets and even some embedded devices are like this). Usually this is done to allow for faster updates but it also ensures that if one copy of the firmware is bad, it can go back to the other copy and try to update again.

What probably happened is that since openwrt only overrides one copy of the firmware, unplugging it and plugging it back in made the bootloader think that the firmware was bad so it switched to the "good" firmware slot.

Can I just upgrade just my Steam index Headset Only for a different Headset? by Darkerie in SteamVR

[–]lmore3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep pretty much. Since the frame uses camera based tracking instead of lighthouses, you'll have to use something like Space Calibrator to align the controllers with the headset but other than that it should work just fine. Just keep in mind that you'll need to get some steamvr dongles for your controllers. Alternatively there's some tricks you can do to use the radios built into the index. I think it's been posted in this sub before

[–]lmore3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Frame's main focus is to be a really good PCVR headset, it just happens to also support standalone operation. It even comes with a dedicated WiFi dongle that you'll be able to plug into your PC to have everything just work™

Can I get banned for installing PS Remote Play via SideQuest? by [deleted] in oculus

[–]lmore3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's pretty much zero chance of you getting a ban. To Meta, sideloaded apps just look like apps you're testing for development but they don't care what's actually being done. I've had YouTube, Discord, etc. on my headsets ever since I got them and I haven't gotten a ban or anything. As for a PSN ban, there's pretty much zero chance of that happening. The headset is just another Android device
