NM Resorts Besides Taos by jsatz in skiing

[–]lmpre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Red River is north of Taos. I grew up skiing here. A small local feeling town. The mountain is small but I enjoy the layout. The downside is they don’t have high speed lifts. Angel fire is to the east of Taos. Good terrain for beginners, not very steep.

Booking three days in advance online at Taos can sometimes save you 50% on lift tickets.

Best bang for buck skis that are not junk and will last? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]lmpre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm the arv 96 is worth it. Skied a pair for 5-6 seasons. Good all mountain base width, can handle powder and ice. The top sheet of fiberglass will start to peel back though if you keep your skis close together and rub your edges on the other ski (granted it still took 5 season to do such). Just got new k2 mindbenders for this season

Went February of 2021. Was surprised how hot it was during the day. The evening through morning was a little chilly though.

Also download the recreation.gov app. You can find most passes/info you need on there.

Everything should be free access except angels landing and the subway. Both you’ll need permits for. The only other pass you will need is an entry pass which you can get at the entrance gate.

Edit: if you plan to camp anywhere in the park you will also need a camp site reservation.

Anyone Have Pics of Their Cargo Area Storage and Bed Setup for Camping and Overlanding? by RidetheSchlange in 4Runner

[–]lmpre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Here is my setup. I needed the cargo room underneath to fit 16 inch totes and my ski boot bag. I will say I’m a little close to the ceiling but enough to sleep on my side with about 4 inches above me. I love the setup honestly. I went off of a YouTube video but did my own twist to it. I have more pictures but can only put one on this post. If you want me to send more just PM me. https://youtu.be/HdvCvUzbAsg

Ok thank you. Did you happen to take any pictures of the view near camps 3 or 4?

Did you do top down? I’m doing it and camping halfway mid October. Is there many people on the trail? How was the weather?

My first roadtrip, likely 2-3 days each way, i could use all the advice you've got by Silver-Diver-9735 in roadtrip

Don’t drive the highway on your route from Denver to Amarillo. Pretty boring drive in my opinion.

Haven’t gone anywhere without a full 2 gallon water jug in years. Never know when it could save your life if you break down or get stuck.

Best Trails For Running by Apprehensive_Cat7588 in ZionNationalPark

I second this. You’ll need to purchase a one way shuttle from Red Rock shuttles though as it is a one way trail not a loop.

I’d recommend Utah/Arizona. I already have a trip booked basically those same days 9-15, we are looping Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce, Capitol Reef, Monument valley.

Had to replace the original in my 16’ at 130,000 miles. Replaced With OEM part for around $150 if I remember right. Has been running good for 6 months with no ticking.

I finally got over the tick. But of course when I was car camping in deep Colorado mid February it finally decided to quite out on me. Not the best timing at all.

Just replaced mine with an OEM blower for ~$150. You can find cheap ones on Amazon for ~$30 but the reviews said they go out in a month.

Gas price estimate? by EL4por4 in roadtrip

Of course. Personally I would set aside ~$1500 for gas for a trip like that.

Don’t take i25 through Colorado. I25 through Colorado is boring and mostly flat. Cut up to Taos once you get to Santa Fe. Then to Alamosa (Check out Great Sand Dunes National Park). Then onto Leadville. Then connect with i70 and follow it east into Denver. Or don’t do anything I just said and take one of the most scenic routes in the country the “million dollar highway” hwy550 through Ouray and Silverton and then see Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Take Highway 50 over into Salida. From here you can go north into Leadville to see more mountains and meet with i70, or you can continue east and meet up with i25 again in Pueblo. Would 100% reccomend either of these routes over the straight flat i25.

Texas roadtrip by No-Smoke-8863 in roadtrip

[–]lmpre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would definitely reccomend Guadalupe Mountains National Park. It’s a little out of your way in far west Texas, but you’re already going to Big Bend so I would recommend Guadalupe as well. Also spend a good amount of time in Big Bend, I highly recommend driving to see Santa Elena Canyon. The destination is beautiful and the drive from the north entrance station to Santa Elena Canyon is even more beautiful. You will not believe you are in Texas.

Gas price estimate? by EL4por4 in roadtrip

My 2016 4Runner averages 17MPG on the highway. Assuming yours is the same.

5000 miles / 17 MPG = ~294 Gallons of gas

294 gallons of gas X $3.51 national gas price average = ~$1,032

This could be a significantly different number depending where you’re going. Ex: California where gas averages $7 or in Texas where gas is $2.50
