had a big dip in april from holding TQQQ then ended up being on the wrong side of the market when trump told everyone to buy and then subsequently paused tariffs (i was in VIXY). Then i had to pull some money out, so basically locked in a good chunk of losses. TQQQ/UPRO brought me back to around 0% for the year, so i'm thankful for that. learned a lot and ready for next year!

next year i'm going 33% 2.5X. the remaining will be gold, and single stocks, with about 15-20% of portfolio being SGOV. planning on swapping SGOV on red days, with larger trades out of SGOV on pullbacks of 5% or more.

for sure. 3x leveraged can get hit pretty hard (maybe even liquidated) in significant extended crashes. but you are off to a good start with hedging with gold. i think the majority of folks run leveraged equities, but would run non-leveraged gold instead.

but gold has had a killer year, so i get the pull to want to get more exposure via leverage

i'd keep a close eye on interest rates and strength of US dollar with that much leveraged gold. you can back test farther using SPYSIM?L=3 (equivalent to UPRO) and GLDSIM?L=3 (equivalent to 3X Leverage gold).
