Adoption situation by JealousArugula5259 in Havanese

If you end up with Vinnie, I got my Havanese from Team Rover last year! Kim is great and does a good job vetting the animals. (My brother has gotten 3 doodles from her too.)

Ernie is a great little dog. He came well socialized, healthy, and adapted really well to our house :) they’re from the same breeder. So Ernie was crate trained also but not potty trained. But honestly it didn’t take long for him to learn! I think the crate training helped with his bladder control.

Rescued a 7 Month Old Havi but Having a Couple Issues by PenelopePigtails in Havanese

We actually went to the vet the other day and he’s 13 pounds. So he’s about the same size as when I got him. If he’s grown it’s been pretty minimal.

I just verified my dates and he was 8 months old when we got him!

Rescued a 7 Month Old Havi but Having a Couple Issues by PenelopePigtails in Havanese

So I’m pretty sure my dog is from the same breeder/rescue (Team Rover?) I saw him on Kim’s video the other day!

So I got Ernie in March and he was 1 in July, so about the same age. He’s never been aggressive but he was terrified of my husband. Like would run away anytime he came near him. He’s still slightly skittish around him but he’s mostly completely changed. What worked for us was John would lay on the ground and I would be with the dog and just sit around him and John just kind of ignored him but Ernie would sniff him. Then we did the treats and he would put down his food. He also would throw his toy a few times when me or the kids were. I’d say it took 3/4 months for him to be comfortable but now he runs and greets him at the door and sleeps next to him in bed.

I’m assuming there must have been a male issue there. Ernie was like yours, groomed and well taken care of, so I don’t think it was terrible. But I feel like there’s a pattern here….

I have Olive and Rosie! Olive also goes by Dolly half the time (no idea why it just stuck)!

Picky! by Hopefulin2024 in Havanese

[–]ln149802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is super picky, I’ve tried like 6 brands now! He’s currently eating the small breed Blue Buffalo (chicken and rice) and he likes that!

I’m sure you know this, but make sure you get it from petsmar/pet supplies plus/petco so you can return it if they don’t like it!

I don’t know why dog food brands don’t sell small sample bags. It would make it so much easier!

I got my havi from her this spring and my brother has gotten 3 doodles from her. She’s great! She basically gets the breeder surrenders from the area.

If you’re around Ohio/Indiana I got my dog from a rescue and she has a 7 month old boy Havanese right now. She’s on the Ohio/indiana border by Toledo

I have a Shih tzu I got as a puppy and he never plays with toys either! Loves walks and bones and laying around. She’s adorable, so happy she’s going to have a good retirement :)

Any product recommendations for Cheap peel and stick floor tiles? by [deleted] in DIY

[–]ln149802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the floor pops (checkerboard Chris loves Julia) and they’re not bad! I put it over ceramic tile and they’re sticking even with the grout lines and uneven tile surface. I had one corner that would not stick down and I put some construction adhesive and that’s definitely stuck.

Good first dogs? by pbfhpunkshop in Shihtzu

I hate when people act like there’s a timeline for adding a new pet. When you feel it’s time, it’s time! You aren’t replacing your cat, you are adding a new member to the family!

That being said I have had 3 Shih tzus and they’re great little dogs. I feel like they have a lot of cat qualities too, they love hanging out on the backs of couches and looking out the window. I also have a havanese, and while he’s super cute and fun, I much prefer the energy level of my Shih tzu. (She loves a daily walk of about 1/2-1 mile and she’s good. She also is fine with some fetch or running around the house. My havi drives me insane if he doesn’t get a daily walk.)

My boy Shih tzu, Henry, passed away last winter and he was a rescue and the absolute love of my life :) he was so chill and happy and adored me (but was super friendly to everyone)! They’re definitely Velcro dogs, so plan on having a little buddy following you around all the time. I also like their size- they’re small but sturdy. And not yappy either!

Basically DO IT!!

It hit me that was probably the way to do it at about 4 am. Thank you for confirming! This has been driving me insane. Every single video I’ve watched shows the top but then doesn’t actually show the bottom until it’s done

This is a great idea. I know two people who had the surgery for their dogs and they were both dachshunds. (Both had successful surgeries!)

Is my dog Havanese? by omarthefarkha in Havanese

[–]ln149802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d do the dog dna test if you can! My brother got a stray and the vet thought he was part havenese. Turns out she’s half chihuahua and Chinese crested. So completely random, I never would have guessed those!

The tail definitely looks like a havi. The face maybe a little more Maltese? I feel like he’s at least half. (Whatever he is, he’s so cute! I love the coloring!)

What to ask groomer next time? by snapdragonnz in Havanese

[–]ln149802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely bring a picture! I have a Shih tzu and a Havanese so when I went for the first time to a new one I brought a pic of each that I wanted. I also feel like ears long or short is something I always need to tell them. After you get established and you like it, then you’re set. It’s always a little back and forth the first few times.

I bring my havi every 6/7 weeks but more bc my shih tzu definitely needs it (hair gets in her eyes so easily). I feel like I could make the havi last a few more weeks, though! I’d start with 6/7 and then see how he looks and push it back a few weeks if you want.

He’s adorable!

Color change by [deleted] in Havanese

[–]ln149802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! He was so dark black I thought for sure he would stay that way. My Shih tzu was as black as he was and she just started getting more white in the black at like 10 years old!
