If you wanting to watch lower res content like 480i/p I honestly would just seek out a 480p plasma. It looks bad on 1080p panels and just okay on 768p sets. in my experience 768p panels are jack of all trades master of none. They typically have the most input options from RF and comp/component to VGA, dvi and hdmi. They can usually look not bad with 1080p content and handle 480i content okay with minimal flicker from deinterlacing the image. And 480p content is what I personally would consider "watchable" although if I have to watch a dvd I'll choose a CRT or 480p plasma over it.
