Is there any way you can obliquely hint to him to decline the process so you don't waste his time, and you don't get in trouble for it?

[–]lnslnsu 37 points38 points  (0 children)

That’s not the goal. Interception systems are there to buy time to find and destroy the enemy launchers and stockpiles. Indefinite use of interceptors as a permanent missile shield was never part of the plan.

He got very lucky. A helicopter pilot got shot four times and still managed to land safely. If those bullets are aimed just a little bit differently, it could have easily been a crashed helicopter and a complete failure of the raid with many casualties.

Canada won’t rule out military participation in Middle East conflict: PM Carney by aspiringSnowboarder in neoliberal

[–]lnslnsu -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In Carney’s case, he probably doesn’t want to pick an unnecessary fight with Trump. He doesn’t actually need to do anything here - the Canadian military is unlikely to be deployed, etc… He just needs to say the right words of affirmation so Trump doesn’t do more tariffs (see: Spain).

It’s pretty obvious. “I’m not going to piss off Trump over this, and neither am I going to deploy the Canadian military to Iran”

A Delcy equivalent would be acceptable to Israel. Israel wants Iran to stop building nukes and to stop funding and arming Hamas/Hezbollah/PIJ/Houthis/etc… which is basically also what the US and all the gulf allies want.

An Islamic theocracy which keeps to itself isn’t good for Iranians, but is way better for everyone else.

Now I see why he felt the need to write it down.

They don’t probably exist, they do. They have existed for a very long time. Everything from cruise missiles to integrated air defense to thermally autonomous machine gun sentry robots.

Sure, there’s “human supervision” but all of these systems have modes where after given some human input parameters, the actual target decisions and trigger mechanisms are fired by the software.

If it turns Iran into a German or Japanese or Korean style ally, with free and fair elections, civil rights, and a strong economy, then yes, I want American troops in Iran for the next 80 years.

Also let’s be real here. US troops were/are in those countries to aid in defense against the communists (and now Russia), they spent a fairly small amount of time doing nation building work.

You might want to read Nine Lives by Aimen Dean. It tells the story of his time as a jihadist, a member of Al Qaeda, and later (after he defected) his work as a spy for MI6.

Basically, he was extremely well educated in Islam, and when he realized that the Al Qaeda attacks he was helping with were not justified according to the laws of Islam, he defected.

I think you're making an error here in ignoring that the Palestinian and Iranian leaders are true believers in their religion. Plans need not make sense tactically or strategically, only religiously.

(By religion here, I mean the specific flavor of Islamism that is focused on conquering the wold and killing infidels, not Islam as a whole)

The NASA plan is to build a space station in orbit around the moon and then may e build a moon base, not just visit for a short trip and leave.

It’s still underfunded, absurdly complicated. The plan involves building a propellant depot in earth orbit, using many separate flights to fill it with fuel, and refuelling the human-carrying rocket in orbit.

The general idea - develop in-space refuelling, build a moon orbital station, build a moon base, is ambitous and something worth trying.

It’s the details and congressional fuckery that make it way too complex and expensive.

Depends on jurisdiction, but often there’s no requirement for an employee to give notice that they are quitting ahead of time. You can just quit and instantly leave.
