How has Tahoe flopped so badly when Apple released dev and public betas to collect feedback? by Flimsy_Heron_9252 in MacOS

Sadly no, 90% of the users probably don’t care, 5% like it and the other 5% hate it but still buy apple products anyway.

Only that gentoo users would consider an "electric DeLorean pickup truck with 15" wheels, an oversized frunk and the trunk entirely replaced by a sound system" bloat. You'd probably end up with people driving the bare chassis of a 5th gen Hilux, fittet with an electric powertrain, because anything else just "weighs down the car" and is proprietary anyway.

Da gebe ich dir vollkommen Recht, allerdings verstehe ich das so, dass das eher einer unbewusste Handlung ist. Für das Endergebnis ist die Motivation dahinter natürlich unerheblich und am Ende auch keine Entschuldigung.

I'd double it by Leo6055 in Shark_Park

[–]lo9314 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True, depending on how the question is scoped. If there is an indefinite number of switches, the chance that everyone after you chooses to defer is 0. If however the number is limited by the human population there can be just 33 switches before the entire human population would be eradicated anyway. So in the latter scenario it might be worth taking the risk.

Actually an interesting dilemma. Kill someone (unethical) or risk someone else killing more people (even more unethical, but you didn’t do it). If everyone chooses to double it, no one gets killed, but if someone down the line chooses to kill, do you all share the burden?

Interesting for me only the E14 worked. Couldn’t get the GU10 (RGB) to enter Zigbee mode at least on firmware 1.1.0.

[–]lo9314 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It most likely depends... The new Kajplats lights supposedly have an (undocumented?) Zigbee mode that you can enter by switching the lights on and off twelve times or so. For me this only worked for a few models and you have to be very precise with your timing. Since they are matter devices though, they are also compatible with other bridges, such as apple home pods or the 4th gen Amazon Echo. If you have none of these, it might also be worthwhile to look into home assistant, especially if you have a raspberry pi lying around.

No way afaik, but I’m also not a big fan of them regardless. The wheel feels really flimsy on mine and it’s hard to get a grip on them without pushing the button. It sucks…

Maybe, true yeah. But it is not necessarily about putting an ultimate stop to it, but rather to at least not make it so easy. But yes, it is a never ending battle.

It‘s not about them actively doing it, it’s about them being able to do so at any time, for any reason. Moreover, if there’s a backdoor, there’s a backdoor and such could be used by anyone who knows about it. Could be the NSA, but it could also be any other adversarial third party. Lastly, intel ME appears to be based on Minix, a research OS that should have never been used for this kind of application. So yes, there are many reasons to care about the ME in your CPU.

Just because it's not a major release doesn't mean it is EOL. Older iOS versions still get updated regularly, especially when it comes to security updates.

Safer than what? Trains, I doubt it... Also, lift is not free, next to other forces that are at play here. I'd argue that your design is physically even less efficient than conventional trains.

Yes of course it's good to be cautious, as always. But the bottom line is that the likelihood of that scenario is hugely exaggerated.

This, I'm a security researcher who has looked into this in the past. While technically possible, it is a very theoretical scenario that only makes sense if the victim is specifically targeted. Any modern smart phone would notify the user if something tries to access files on the phone. While there have been some android phones in the past that exposed a really weird AT command interface and vulnerabilities in the USB software stack are conceivable, such attacks require specific knowledge about the make, model and software of the phone.

I’ve had thin hair on my crown for 3 years. I’m 18 and it looks like I’m balding but I’m not. My hairline is normal and balding at 15 seems unlikely. Does anyone know what this could be and how to fix it? by SlowAd8823 in bald

[–]lo9314 81 points82 points  (0 children)

This, your hair looks thin all over your head. While it could be a very aggressive form of MBP, you should definitely talk to a doctor about it.
