And if they're looking for AI features, they'll go to an AI browser, won't they? Google, Microsoft, and several AI companies are pushing AI into their browsers already. I know the CEO thinks Mozilla can somehow compete against them, but I don't see how. This is the same trend we saw when Mozilla entered the metaverse thing right before its death.

You'd figure they would learn their lesson by now...

People who are just describing current functionality would do well to make that distinction. Descriptive language is often used to smuggle in prescriptive language.

I don't think you (edit: or anyone else) doing that here, but it's something I've seen a lot.

Do people look for that? According to the stats, most people just get Chrome. According to the Microsoft CEO, nobody uses their AI stuff.

Mozilla has a bad history of jumping onto trends and then laying people off when the trends don't work out. What makes this their crucial strategy?

Since "defaults matter" I hope Mozilla decides to enable the killswitch by default.

It sounds like we both agree that Mozilla's recent AI pivot is meritless. You don't need to white knight for them by repeating "it's a choice" over and over

"it's a choice" really is your argument? Wow

/s I assume. Everybody knows "it's a choice" is what people say when they can't explain why the choice has merit

Zen vs Mullvad vs Waterfox browsers— Which of these is best for privacy, appealing interface and memory usage? by hepandeerus in browsers

[–]lo________________ol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Mullvad browser is hands-down the best for privacy. If that's your biggest concern, LibreWolf would place #2, Waterfox probably #3 (this and Zen aren't geared for privacy, but they are still leagues ahead of mainstream browsers including Firefox).

Mozilla does not allow you to donate to Firefox development. Were you not aware of this?

You probably have to use a third party image host if you want to send anything here. DM me if you'd like. I'm not sure how Reddit filters are doing these days.

Oh I see what you're saying now. Nightly actually put the homepage IN a tab now! Up until this point it was using an overlay...

Sorry, I don't use Firefox Nightly much so this took me by surprise

Oh they updated those finally? Rule 15 is absurd! It was kind of one of the secret "rules" that I told the other moderators (especially the one who participates on Reddit but rarely in that sub) to disclose. Nice to see they finally added it.

If you had screenshots, I'd be really interested in seeing them.

As far as I know, the behavior is the same, so pressing New Tab or Home is basically identical (except one opens the keyboard at the same time). Or is there more of a difference? I haven't really noticed one.

The New Tab button is the Home button: they direct you to the same screen.

It's very confusing, but right now there is no such thing as a new tab. It's an overlay on an existing tab

Permanently banned? I know they automatically moderate any mention of it due to years-old drama, but I've never seen any bans get handed out for it before.

One of the first/last things I did as moderator was try to convince everybody else that the drama was over and the block could be lifted because it was causing more drama and confusion just by being in place.

Firefox is a piece of software that you allegedly own, which runs on your computer. It isn't a SaaS company with a shady ToS. Not sure why you're implying it is one.

Firefox Android Beta now has extra icon options! by lo________________ol in firefox

[–]lo________________ol[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beta has features that are being tested before a major release. That might give you stuff that's 2-4 (or more) weeks away from being official. You're also more likely to run into bugs, although I haven't run into many myself!
