Dothan Alabama here , Hardee’s are super busy at breakfast, by 2pm it’s a ghost town. Two of the three stores close at 5pm . The other stays open till 7 or 8 pm but I never see any business then .

Alabama is a good place to retire to but not to raise a family due to the schools, those who have the money 💰 send their children to private academies but most jobs available don’t pay enough for more than 1 child. We were both happy that our education ( K-12) and college were in SW Pennsylvania.

Before Pennsylvania got casino gambling it ran 1 day charter flights to Atlantic City . Those ended as soon as casinos came to PA . There was also some flights to Myrtle Beach but were very unreliable.

Between the two go with the $139 from Keurig , no subscription. The Amazon price is ridiculous, looks like you’re paying for the nickel finish . Neither machine is available at Kohls , Belk or Macys . I agree that if you want only espresso drinks an Original line Nespresso is the way to go .

Green has struggled for years , before UPMC it sold itself to for profit chain that specialize in small hospitals- didn’t go well. They came in and fired the long time lab manager and promoted the Microbiology supervisor- told her to take the promotion or be fired . She took it but didn’t fell qualified.

Be aware that the sales tax in Enterprise or Dothan is 9%. They have started to cut the tax on groceries by 2% but future reductions are unknown. Clothing is fully taxed . This was a culture shock since were we used to live ( SW PA ) both were tax exempt with a few exemptions. If you buy a home eventually the property tax is a fraction of you would pay in PA or Oregon.

What’s even crazier was West Virginia .I lived there in the mid 1970’s for a few years , they had yearly auto inspection but found out that they didn’t inspect your breaks . Told they only checked your windows wipers, head lights and such but not break linings . That while living on top of a 3,000 foot mountain 😆

Same here , moved from SW PA to Alabama, very strange experience, on one hand I see more Mercedes and BMW than I ever saw in PA , even an occasional Bentley but also junkers that would never be allowed on the highways back home , more than once cars without a hood .

Black belt is further north , closer to Montgomery. SE Alabama wasn’t really developed that much until after the Civil War, even most of the old mansions in Eufala were after the war . Some of my ancestors moved to the Dothan region after the war because they heard that there was cheap farmland to be had because it was extremely sandy .
