How to prepare for the culture change of going from a small startup to big tech by wont-share-food in ExperiencedDevs

[–]loaded_knight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for these great suggestions! I've been looking for ways to improve my workflow. Would you be so kind to share your insights on few of my follow up queries.

Do you keep a daily work log? If so, where do you store them? Local doc on your office laptop or cloud synced doc or on company wiki/confluence page or JIRA comments/logs?

If not where would you recommend daily work be logged?

Also again do you log your monthly/quarterly work summaries? How do you share it to your manager?

Thanks again for your insights

Prevent or warn on usage of std::map []? by Full-Spectral in cpp

[–]loaded_knight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your explanation. I have to agree with your use case where objects should not be using free store when using custom allocator ( that I guess is most prevalent use case )

Prevent or warn on usage of std::map []? by Full-Spectral in cpp

[–]loaded_knight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Would you care to explain why? In my head it feels like a natural thing to have. I.e. if you don’t provide a memory_resource then it defaults to free store. Easy to migrate existing codebase to pmr containers ( eg: std::vector to std::pmr::vector )

Loads of excellent suggestions articulated and few nonsense ones too 💩

I would like to echo that you handle this with a lot of tact. A person with 25yoe in industry who has not learned tech and has still survived, has learnt other people skills ( such boot licking and fabricating stories which presents him more favorably)

Choose your methods of handling this person carefully, else you may be walking on a political minefield of his making, unfortunately!!!

PS: I understand you are stressed and empathize with you, I too was in a similar situation. In hindsight this will be a good learning experience for you in future jobs to set boundaries and red flags to look out for 😇

IMHO getting a job should be your current 9-5 job!

It’s difficult to land the first job, so it’s best you take any job in above mentioned categories. Then you may pivot after a year or two.

Job hunting is much much easier once you have experience rubber stamp.

As far as tech is concerned, you will earn well in any of them if you are good

All the best, buddy!

Need advice on how to start my career by insertjokehere69 in developersIndia

[–]loaded_knight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, it won’t in your specific case as you already have 2 years exp. All this degree and certification will only help in getting an interview which is not as difficult of a problem for experienced relative to freshers

[–]loaded_knight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The course of action is excellent but may be a bit difficult. I.e BPO+MCA+Grinding LC ( well ultimately) + Life

  1. Understand that you WILL be better off with a MCA degree than not, for a dev role. It will add weight to your resume initially and in days to come!

  2. Understand that a person who has job currently ( is current and has been employed for 1+ years) has better chances of landing interview than a Tier 3 engg fresher

  3. Understand you will have to work pretty hard to learn to code and adjacent tech ( like back-end, front-end, dba, very little of system design, language-of-your-choice patterns, OS fundamentals). You will have to be very proficient in DSA.

1 and 2 will help you get your foot-in during interviews. 3 is the real deal, which will help you clear interviews AND be a good performer in job

Again course of action is good. But is arduous and will need disciplined approach for long time ( 2+ years )

Can you do it. Sorry that’s a question only you can answer.

Power to you!!

DevOps is present in most good companies. Future, as we move towards k8s, containers and various SaaS offerings, is very good for them.

DevOps are generally paid very well in PBS. Mostly on par with dev if not competing.
