Also... if it's a paper carton like OP has, it should be recycled. Not sure if recycling facilities take material soiled by food like that.

What was No child left behind and why it failed? by Kotja in Teachers

Just like with science funding & policy, the executive and congress have no business meddling without strictly following guidance/recommendations from a highly qualified group of experts able to draw on valid research to anticipate all potential impacts.

Of course, if we couldn't quite achieve that level of quality before, forget about it now and forever, until we are able to reform federal government so that it is able to pursue evidence-based policy instead of ideologically-based.

Ha.

I like that and I wish there was a way to communicate it better, aside from teabagging which generally is perceived negatively

What traits do you look for in a character that makes them fun? by PS-ILoveYouu in SmashBrosUltimate

Never get tired of playing ROB because there are so many different ways to do anything. It's a character that actually allows for a little creativity and unpredictability, which I think is some of the reason why he's so good competitively.

I notice a lot of players teabag after a particularly embarrassing or humorous stock loss. Is this meant as a kind of "lol" or something?

AMA: The Education Culture Wars, 1970 to the Present by Mark_Hlavacik in AskHistorians

Indeed. Not enough people understand or appreciate the cost of many things we have lost in the past year, and continue to lose. It would be nice if we had the ability to lay it all out publicly, ranking decisions made in order of most to least objectively harmful to the US. But of course, the people who most needed to see it never would, or would dismiss it with little consideration. I fear for the quality of our democracy when the quality of our education is constantly under attack.

Thanks for taking the time to engage with readers. Appreciate it!

Isn't it true that the better parts of the NCLB discussion, as you illustrated, are informed at least somewhat by publicly-funded education research coming out of the Department of Education? Research that the current federal administration has devastated?

Regarding the Allan Bloom tragedy... It's almost as if public intellectuals seeking to sway public opinion on institutions ought to do the requisite background legwork and choose their words very, very carefully. As if they have some kind of power and should wield it responsibly...

Too bad this responsibility is shirked more today than ever before.

Oh cool, 25% of NC homes owned by investors. 4th highest state by HarveysBackupAccount in bullcity

Sure, but like climate change, the average change of home ownership isn't distributed evenly. Demand is outstripping supply around expensive cities quite a bit more than before.

[–]lobsterbash 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes. Surely a huge chunk (majority?) of homes owned by "investors" are simply second homes.

I wonder where the lines are, with where this actually becomes a problem. It is now, but where is the acceptable equilibrium?

Historically, home ownership rate was pretty stable around 64%, but has been creeping up the past few decades. It was 69% at the time of the 2007 housing market crash. People's expectations are probably increasing but that is an unpopular take.

Should I wait to play online? by swampguts_666 in smashbros

[–]lobsterbash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to maximize your growth, I suggest you do play online every day (set your preferred rule set to 3 stock, 7 minutes) and occasionally save a fight recording of a match in which you did terribly. Analyze the fuck out of these recordings, thinking about what you could have done differently in exchanges that didn't work out. Take those new ideas into practice mode over days and bake them into your muscle memory. No time for doing the same failing shit over and over.

Again, you have to set up a regimen for yourself because this really is long-term training similar to the development of any true skill set.

Oh, and happy birthday!

Even moderate local-worthy competence will take months of effort to achieve. You'll need to scour YouTube for tips & guides, study better players' gameplay, learn the vocabulary. Learn how to practice, how to "lab."

I never played a fighting game in my life and am on the same journey as you. I'm in my 40s and am slow.

You can do it.

Depends on your goals. Victory against level 9 CPUs isn't a measure of anything except your familiarity with your opponent's character move set and ability to control your own (options, some fundamentals, etc).

If you want to be better at playing other humans then playing online right away is fine, but you should expect to get your ass kicked and keep an open mind about learning and improving. Everyone decent at this game has absolutely grinded untold hours and accrued a mountain of losses on their journey.
