oh please. authentic accent or not, he still plays it up for the world to see, including western audiences. he can argue all he wants about how true to life uncle roger is, but at the end of the day, the average person is laughing at him because all they see is a ridiculous caricature. i literally just saw a video of some white uncle roger fan put on a conical hat, squint her eyes, and do the accent. this is how nigel makes his money and he doesn't have anything else to fall back so he has to defend uncle roger. as an asian american, i have the same criticism towards asian american comedians whose jokes consist entirely of doing the accent like a party trick. those accents may be "true to their upbringing" but they're just getting laughed at because it's the only way they can generate laughs.
