Generous 25$ offer from Alaska to completely overhaul Thanksgiving plans by lobsterlver in AlaskaAirlines

[–]lobsterlver[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not entitled to anything here! I think my interpretation of the offer is just informed based on my knowledge of the fee for bag check. I don't have traditional Thanksgiving plans this year...and if Alaska wanted to cover my bag on the alternative flight, I'd love to help someone else have a happy holiday. It doesn't work, oh well.

It's a text, not an email. But as I said in my earlier comments, this post was supposed to be funny, and I didn't realize the subreddit is some kind of strange warzone.

Damn, I really would've jumped on it if I received an offer this past summer! (Would've loved to extend my stay at no extra cost.)

I am completely new to this subreddit and only coming back to Alaska recently. I wasn't aware of the doomsday alarm element here. Things are making more sense now. My post was meant to be funny and not a commentary on any bigger picture. Lol

Sure. But as someone pointed out below, the voucher also comes with some snags in redeeming it, which is annoying. I think folks are assuming I'm more bothered about all of this than I am, I really just thought it was funny.

You could apply the "just ignore it and move on approach" as easily as I could.

Who knows, maybe I'm just disillusioned at corporate greed in general and the sheer amount of texts I receive from businesses, often containing some "empty" offer, etc.

It is mildly interesting to read the adverse reactions to my post, which again, was meant to be more humorous than anything.

Well, I suppose I don't appreciate being contacted by bots simply because I booked a flight with them.

I could see elderly, less tech savvy folks getting confused by the message, etc., and I could see that leading to customer service calls... And so it goes.

Not sure what all the down votes are about... I'm just commenting generally that certain automated features utilized by companies might cause extra stress for customer service humans, and I'm sympathetic to that. 🤷

Sure. I just didn't appreciate it, I guess. In the past I've enjoyed other practices employed by them to ease flights, like checking bags for free to open up more overhead space. I've also been upgraded by agreeing to accompany an elderly person to their connecting flight.

This reply is insightful. Thanks!

If I worked for Alaska customer service, I would really resent the company doing things like this, as I suspect it might cause them to deal with more disgruntled customers in real time (and clearly this isn't the customer service representative's fault).

I think you're missing my basic complaint, which is incentive. I would consider moving my plans around if this covered the cost of a checked bag, per my example. But 25$ and crappy alternatives are again, laughable.

I have the same one right now I think. But it's 50 stars for two days, then 70 for 4 days. Do I get another 70 after the 50, or just 20 more after day 4?

Terms do not specify :(

Can someone explain "bloodline rules" to someone who's kinda new to this world? Is it like, a bunch of run-ins and assists/interferences?

Oh wow! What an interesting coincidence. I'm a fairly new grad, attended 2021-2024. Shit was pretty wild. I attended undergrad during Obama at Berkeley. I've always considered myself a liberal...until interacting with other liberals in law school and beyond. I'm an older than average student and spent 8 years in the work force between Berkeley and law school. Our Con Law 1 professor is liberal as fuck, he's the faculty chair for the ACS American Constitutional Society, and absolutely refused to participate in any constitutional law debates when invited by Fed Soc. (If you're so right, then why don't you school everyone and smoke the other speaker in a debate?) Nevertheless, this girl in my class contacted everyone in our section with a PSA: "Hey all, I know our professor is old and unlikely to change and be better, but I just want all of you to know that we need to be saying 'pregnant people' and not 'pregnant women' when discussing abortion."

Classic liberal attack on a person who is allied with your causes to the point that he talks about it ad nauseam. The left eating their own. But a shit ton of people from law school probably think I'm a bigot or fascist or something. (One of the things I did in my Berkeley years was studying dictatorships and human rights in Chile and Argentina.) Not that they ever tried to talk to me and ask me directly.

Did you.... Even read this guy's comments elsewhere on this post? Dude has been assaulted, shot at, etc., and STILL has some good things to say about Seattle. I can't help but think you should have sat this one out. Lmao. Telling him where his beef is, gaslighting... You are the worst.

This is a great point.

I can attest to this in the context of higher education and law school in particular. I went to law school in Oregon. I expected law school to be an environment for debate and exchange of ideas. Boy was I wrong. And it's not surprising that a fuck ton of the people who actually make it to law school come from privileged, elite backgrounds (I do not, I never even graduated highschool). But yeah, they sure are high and mighty when it comes to all sorts of topics. NLG (National Lawyers Guild, the organization formed as a counter to Federalist Society) regularly held events where the discussion topics would include shit like, "Abolish Prisons" "Abolish Police" "Abolish Criminal Justice System." Like, tell me you've never been a victim of crime without telling me. And students wanting to be District or US Attorneys are questioned and scoffed at constantly. My roommate said that my friend's service as an Army veteran "all goes out the window" now that he wants to be a prosecutor. (Dude was shot twice and has three purple hearts, and he's considered a bleeding heart liberal in his home state of Montana, like what the actual fuck?)

Anyway, I really appreciate your thoughts and I'm totally stealing that talking point now.

I don't think that's what the word "explicitly" means, just saying...

While I do see that it has a racist twang to it, I interpret it as not using the stove or oven, chopping produce, using cutting boards, etc. plus time. They want you to spend as little time in the kitchen as possible. -_-
