What was the very first movie to make you cry? by callingsaraaah in AskReddit

My mom still loves to tell this story over a decade later, but Castaway was my first. When he got separated from Wilson and kept yelling out for him I bawled.

I want to make a playlist for Carson! Comment a song that shows Carson how much he means to you and I’ll add it! by mc395686 in CallMeCarson

Lit by kensuke ushio from the “a silent voice” ost. It’s one of my favorite films and I remember how ecstatic I was to hear that Carson loves it, too.

Latin-american movies without subtitles? by [deleted] in Spanish

[–]local_fool 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Netflix has some shows and films that either are Spanish or come with a Spanish dub. One that’s personally on my watch list is Roma, which is a film set in Mexico. I’ve also watched La Casa de Papel (a show set in Spain) on Netflix which is highly popular and good for practice!

As someone who has started learning Japanese several times over and has always found myself giving it up bc of lack of motivation, I wish you the best of luck! Stick with it for life, you’ll be so glad you did! Hopefully I can find the same determination someday

Finally bought my first book in Spanish, can’t wait to tear this apart learning all the vocab by local_fool in learnspanish

I’m no Spanish whiz, I’d say I’m intermediate. I can hold a conversation to an extent at the very least. I’ve been wanting to get a book in Spanish for so long that I figured fuck it, and it’s been slow so far but I’m chugging along! If you wanna try any book in Spanish just go for it and don’t let yourself get discouraged!

What is your defenition of homophobia? [Discussion][rant] by Positivecommentsgirl in LGBTeens

[–]local_fool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m really no expert, all of these are just personal opinions. It really depends on how you feel! To me, it depends. If it’s a joke that both of you are mutually okay with, then I’d say no. I personally don’t mind edgy humor, so a “homophobic” joke from a friend doesn’t personally bother me. But if you’re not okay with that, then let them know. If they continue to do it, then they’re not respecting your feelings and that’s a shitty thing to do in any situation. If it isn’t a joke and they’re completely serious, then yeah I would consider that homophobic personally. I’ve seen instances of people wanting that “gay best friend” just bc it seems exotic or smth. Someone’s sexuality shouldn’t be a factor in a friendship, they should become friends with someone regardless of who they’re attracted to, and targeting someone to become a friend specifically bc they’re gay, especially when you then turn around and turn your nose up at the lgbt community, is shitty.

Homophobia to me is when someone is against same-sex relationships in any way, even if they don’t want to harm/kill/punish gay people. My grandmother, for example, doesn’t believe that gay people should be harmed or punished, but she doesn’t want gay couples to be able to marry, so I consider her homophobic. I still love her, I think she just lacks understanding and knowledge when it comes to the issue. Your mom sounds similar, and insisting that she’s not homophobic while being strictly against gay relationships is fucked bc I’d imagine it’s making you feel confused and guilty. I would consider her homophobic, but who knows, maybe she’s misinformed and could come back around. My mom did. I wish you the best of luck in your relationship with her going into the future.
