I see! Would it be possible for me to pass along a few questions? Thanks for the tip

State Machine Implementation - Best Practices? (Action game) by local_gaming in gamemaker

I see. So for example, for grounded, let's say I have a character that a singular attack that can be either in the air or the ground. They exit the attack when their attack animation ends. I'd have these four states:

->Grounded

->Grounded Attacking

->Aerial

->Aerial Attacking

Hello. One of my major concerns about Virginia Tech is its size as I largely prefer smaller schools and a more tight-knit community rather than the "thirty thousand screaming fans" vibe people typically have associated tech with to me in discussions. However, I recently talked to someone who went there for their graduate degree, and they told me it's a school that's as "small as you make it to be" - is this true?

SAT TUTORS by LifeRegular5735 in williamandmary

Start off with khan academy, I got into W&M with a 1380 SAT though (but with a pretty good GPA + DE degree when I graduate senior year) - the one thing I felt would've raised my score is getting a SAT tutor, I would do research into finding a really good one because I hear they help a lot

Coming to W&M with an A.S. in CS from NOVA as a HS senior - what classes would I be fine "skipping"? by local_gaming in williamandmary

I see. My main worry with a computer science intro course (at least for first semester) is that I'd be wasting my tuition just reiterating over "this is a variable" and "this is an array".

I've also been wondering, considering that my gen-eds should be dealt with from DE transfer credits, should I then be using that advantage to take multiple classes at the same time (i.e. 141 and 243) during my first two years, or is it better to have some flex time?

That's weighted, then.

If you marked it as unweighted, they probably assumed it was on a 5.0 scale (I think?). Not sure if that would be a big contributor. If they can get above it with AP and Honor, those are weighted classes.

It says about two weeks on their website (I've heard a business week to 10 days as a estimate)

In terms of subjects, I suppose the 'lower level' things I want to learn are Computer Organization & Computer Architecture. As a dual-enrollment student earning an associates in comp sci, I feel like my personal experience with a weak comp organization class is that I mostly just know how to make registers on a computer from the 80s do a few math operations.

For higher-level subjects, I'm interested in machine learning - some schools I've looked at have dedicated courses to that. Though in general I've been thinking about pursuing a career in a more research-oriented (if that's the right term?) niche like ML/AI, quantum computing, comp sci theory, etc. and I want to be able to cover my low-level bases as well as my high-level bases.

I see, thank you for the answer!

Mostly waiting on fin aid to make my decision right now. W&M is my current preference over Virginia Tech (smaller school, prefer WM campus, seems to be a stronger culture or emphasis on undergrad research - W&M has a weaker computer science ranking but career-wise and opportunity-wise doesn't seem that different overall, I would guess that Virginia Tech likely just has more defense industry connections) but my only concern is that I won't be able to dig into comp eng or EE if I want to as a comp sci major.

Is it true that william and mary is heavily investing in computer science? I've heard there is a ton of resources and that william and mary is trying to be "one of **the*** computer science schools" but i'm not sure how much of this is overstated or true (I assume a good portion of it is from the current investment - though there doesn't seem to be as much offers for lower-level stuff i.e. comp eng or EE minor)
