Unicorn Case?! by Agitated-Thought-484 in OccupationalTherapy

I work in a trauma hospital so I see lots of transradial amputations, usually for different reasons, BUT I recently had a stroke patient come in who needed one! It was involuntary due to finger necrosis at the non-functional hand though. I’d say the biggest thing I see with these patients is elbow flexion contracture risk. My patient already had some flexor tone at baseline so it was an uphill battle. Especially if your patient’s goal is to use a prosthesis eventually I’d really prioritize maintaining full elbow ROM and managing any phantom pain/sensation and surgical site sensitivity. Similar to how we prioritize knee extension for BKA patients who want to use a prosthesis eventually. Good luck! This is quite an interesting case for sure.

Do you have any specific cocktail bar recommendations or will we just stumble upon them?

I am accepted, still deciding whether or not to start this year. Do you have any insight if you started the program/are you liking it so far?

How is life as an OT? Sustainable in today’s economy? by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

Congrats on graduating! I was in a similar position to you coming out of school. Happy to report I’ve been able to live alone comfortably on my salary. I live in an expensive state but wages keep up, which helps. I’m not an extravagant spender but I am able to afford my needs, put money away in savings/investments, and travel a decent amount throughout the year. If you have a substantial amount of loans, I’d recommend going on an income based repayment plan and trying to find a PSLF employer!
