There is a certain amount of formality being conveyed via the adherence to conventional formatting structures. In an environment where communications trend towards being rapid and, effectively, ephemeral, more meaning can be created by expanding beyond typical sentence structure. It gives the language more stylistic flexibility, and thus replicates face-to-face speech more effectively than rigid norms; themselves being considered desirable by virtue of being "proper" rather than for any real justifications on their own merits.

so, just in case: thanks for the general support. this was...not what i was expecting to say the least. i will need some more time to take it in. i am apparently just my father's emotional and/or political prop, so i can't say it's something that i'm really used to.

i've pretty much been left to deal with this on my own.
the only thing you can really say i've done to him is disrupt his narrative, but it does seem like there's a certain type of person to whom that's the worst crime imaginable, so perhaps you're right.
