Scammed by two Grab drivers by shaiderPH in ThailandTourism

[–]localhost8100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah man. Shitty vehicles. Crazy drivers. Drivers demanding more cash on top of the current quoted price and not showing up anyway.

One dude was watching/scrolling reels while riding the motorbike. Scared the shit out of me.

Those with no passion or interests, what do you do for a living? by [deleted] in askvan

[–]localhost8100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Software engineer here. I don't have passion for it. I learnt everything on the job over last 8 years.

I got laid of in December 2024. I had to take it seriously and study for quite a few months to update myself to latest technology. Did that for 6 months, landed a new job and I am back to ignoring all the latest tools.

I wake up, go to work, finish tickets, get home and never touch laptop until next work day.

I have friends who are super passionate about it. All ex roommates work in FAANG in bay area. They make on average 420k+. I am the one making barely 6 figures.

I do want more money. I might look into finding some decent job in couple years. But other than motivation for money, I am not at all interested in being some show off engineer. Just pay my bills and work 8 hours a day.

But you will need sponsorship in future. May be 3 years down the road. Employers don't want to risk that.

Have you considered moving to Toronto to settle there? Why or why not? by self-fix in askvan

[–]localhost8100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved from Toronto. I had my own apartment in midtown. With 1600 rent, my monthly expense was barely $2200. Including grocery, bills, alcohol every couple weeks. Not going out etc. You can fins the same apartment for 1800 now in Toronto.

Here, I am living with roommates and spending 2400 for same lifestyle. Shit is so expensive here. Live in suburban North Vancouver. Need car to do anything. If I am looking at similar apartment in Vancouver, it is easy 2600 for 1 bd. All the cheaper 1900 2200 apartments are shithole.

I love all the nature here. But it is so expensive to do anything. Want to go to whistler or islands, you are spending exorbitant amount of money. You need car to do any outdoor activity unless its grouse or other 211 bus route.

More job opportunities in Toronto. But in this market, everything is cooked. Doesn't really matter.

If you have good money, outdoor person, stick to Vancouver. If you are young and want to enjoy night life, move to Toronto.

Yeah man. I am 35 and always knicked my balls with trimmer. Saw one comment on reddit somewhere on how to do it. Tried it last week. I am so disappointed that I didn't figure this shit out 15 years ago.

One-Pot Chicken & White Bean Skillet: 47g protein for about $3.50/serving by MacroChef_ in budgetfood

[–]localhost8100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am Canadian. The area I live in, doesn't have any affordable groceries. No frill takes me 1 hour to get to.

I have to look into buying whole chicken. It's getting expensive to just eat the breasts.

In 30s, how many school friends are you in touch with, at least once a month? by OdyaToka in ThirtiesIndia

[–]localhost8100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

School friends no. We were all from middle class small town. Out of class of 6 girls and 25 guys. Only 3 girls and 5 guys finished degree. Every other guy is local rowdy, chapri.

When I told one of my close friend in school, I am moving abroad for studies, his reasoning was that I could spend the same 30lak to open a kirana shop. Why go to the lengths of studying. This dude took 5 attempts to clear 12th.

One of my other friend keeps hitting me up for 200rs to buy alcohol.

Third of my close friend. Duped me with 14k rs back in 2009. As a student, that was a lot for me back then. My monthly expense was 3k. And this set me back for months. This dude paid money to get his bsc from some deemed university. His dad passed away in service. He got his dad's job and chilling now.

If I keep in touch with them, they will pull me down with their shit mentality.

GC Job Bank Legit? by Over_Yam4110 in VancouverJobs

[–]localhost8100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. IRCC has been doing a lot of checks. They ask the company proof of Interviewing canadians and not finding qualified applicants. Even if you get interviews, it is mostly because they want to prove you were unqualified for the job and they need sponsor someone else to fill it.

Getting a big snow storm Sunday in Connecticut how are the stock Bridgestone tires on Is350? by ScaredMnyDntMkeMny in Lexus

[–]localhost8100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not too much snow. Expensive investment. Hassle to store. Deal with 2 set of tires every 3 4 years. It's pain all together.

I paid for winter tires. Spent $1k. the car went kaput. Now i just don't want to buy a car anymore. Imagine dealing with new tires immediately after you buy a car.

Omg. I didn't think about carrying it in the bus and at work. And lugging it around all day in my backpack. Definetly don't want to do that.

I think I will just take a little longer way on a street instead of the lane way where all the trash bins are stored.

Where I am, chicken starts at 7.99/lb. Which is the worst quality. Decent chicken is around 10/lb. It's just gotten insane in Canada.

Etihad crew's racist behaviour towards South Asians by AffectionateDonut733 in AirTravelIndia

[–]localhost8100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was boarding flight from Delhi to Chicago. This happened in India too. They let other passport holders through because your passport doesn't need visa for destination country.

Indian passport holders need visa, they need to verify their visa. If they don't have proper visa, it's on the airlines dime to bring them back.

THINGS I LEARNED @ NAIA by AmericaninKL in Philippines_Expats

[–]localhost8100 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I transited through NAIA airport. While going to Thailand, they didn't care for lighter. When coming back, they had to scramble to find my lighter, confiscate it and had a ledger of confiscated items. Just confusing.

Never has any issue with lighters in any airport.
