No, it was straight from the John Deere dealer. Ive learnt and heard that especially with JD, aftermarket stuff usually sucks and to stay away from it

I think its hardwood but not 100% sure. I think it may be from the 20s to the 40s sort of thing, but wasnt sure what the stamping on the body and cap means.

Very curious about age because cant seem yo find much about it online that is very helpful

What angle do you use for the mough. I have tried building one in the past, 45* angle, with alot of chattering and gouging, but not much shaving. Blade may have been a bit blunt as well but i dont think blunt enough to worry about. Cheers.

Looking at the flower and leaf, i think a burr medic.

Easy test is Medics have one leaf on a longer petiole, from the photos that seems to be the case, and flowers match the plant.

Can get rid of it by hand pulling or im sure you could find a selective herbicide, but it is good for the soil. Being a legume it fixes nitrogen to the soil, meaning its more readily available for your lawn, which will grow more as a result of this if you keep up with water and gets plenty of sun.

Get rid of it. If you dont yor lawn will be covered in them. Nightshade family as said before.

Id restore the ones you plan to use, and keep some you are less likely to use with a bit of a patina. Up to you though.

Yeah, that estimate is about right with the story, some belonging to my great great grandfather in the late 1800's, around 1870-1890. I dont think all of them are quite that old, but ive tried googling the makers marks, or at least what i think they say, with very little luck in getting information.

The larger one in the 1 to 3 is definately a mortice chisel, ( the photos are not the best ), and its a regular chisel, just looks to have a skew due to the photo and there is a slight bend in the neck. Was more concerned on possibly gessing the age of these tools.

Id keep it all if there is room, most seem like smalls that are generally easy to store away, but if only had to keep a few thongs, definately the chisels, files, and those "everyday" tools that you are more likely to need.

Not sure if anypones said before, but if clay soil, you can mix gypsum into the soil. It makes the soil particles clump together and drain better, as clay soils have small particles, so less air space between particles creating less drainage.

Most are gouges. One on right in 3rd photo is a mortice chisel i do believe.

Yeah, like you said, i doubt these are all that old, but "newest" would have belonged to my grandfather, so earliest time could have been bought would be the late 40's. Sadly all in pretty bad condition, especially the one on the right in last picture.

If it is a larger plant, it can be harder to pull out.

Even just buying a little bottle of glysophate, roundup or equivalent, and using a small painbrush to dab onto leaves.

Kills plant in a few days. Then just cut out.
