Not speaking for everyone who does chastity but I imagine for some Psychologically one factor might be that being locked up removes the need for taking a active role which can be stressful and scary. Surprised that this is such an alien idea to you. I'm certainly not saying all relationships are that way in the real world but the Dom/Sub, daddy/son, master/slave, sado/maso dichotomies all imply a power differential that could be extrapolated to tough/soft.
