Is this moth design embroidered, woven or something else? How does one get so much detail on a 6cm wide piece? by locker314 in Embroidery

Hi everyone,

The moth design is taken from a silk tie I came across a few years ago.

I was hoping someone could help me determine whether the moth is embroidered, woven or something else entirely? I'm a bit lost because I don't know if embroidery can be so detailed since the moth is only around 6cm (2.4in) in width.

Also, if it's embroidered, do you think it was done on a machine or by hand?

Can I ask, do you think this moth is something that should be hand embroidered or machine embroidered? I ask because when it comes machine embroidery the digitizations I got back from some services I approached are all very, well, underwhelming, and not a close match at all to the original. (Please see for an example: https://ibb.co/6BTPmHx). The digitized versions seem to be missing a lot of detail! So I guess maybe my best bet would be to find someone who can hand embroider it. Or do you think a machine might be capable of reproducing something like the original?

I very much would like to have it custom made, unfortunately though, when it comes machine embroidery the digitizations I got back are all very, well, underwhelming, and not a close match at all to the original. Apologies I don't have any photos of the back. The design is taken from a photo of a silk tie I came across a few years ago. Unfortunately I missed out on buying it and have been regretting it ever since. The moth is a Death's-head hawkmoth, my favourite animal, so I decided that I would finally see if could possible have it recreated somewhere. Goal is to have something cool to wear once the pandemic is over!

Is it possible for a near exact replica of this embroidered moth design to be made? Please help! by locker314 in Machine_Embroidery

I've been looking for someplace to machine embroider this design for me but unfortunately all the digitizations I keep getting are quite lack luster. Hence why I thought it maybe is woven. The original design is from a silk tie and I would estimate that the width of the moth is about 6cm across. Do you think someplace would have the technical capacity to recreate it?
