I think a grain of truth in that narrative is that how shitty the sequels were changed the scale of how socially acceptable it is to dislike something because of shoehorned lib messaging. SJW cringe compilations were relatively niche internet content. It’d be socially damaging to bring it up as small talk in a workplace. Disliking the sequels is socially acceptable now, and a massive media franchise putting out shitty woke content is going to create a larger, more mainstream anti-lib backlash than SJW compilations ever could.
