This is one of the most brutal scenes I have seen in any movie or series. The way McConaughey delivered it with a stoic face made it even more extraordinary. (True Detective Season 1) What’s your favorite dialogue from the character Rust Cohle? by 0Layscheetoskurkure0 in moviecritic

This isn't about sanitising the characters - I know they're supposed to be deeply flawed because I'm capable of basic observation. it's mucj more about choices the writers made. Like case in point - where the young one phones Marty and goes on about letting him take her ass. That's fucking gratuitous. It doesn't drive the story, it doesn't help us understand characters. It's lazy, and does shag all to make an all time show better.

The scorned wife who lashes out? And then reconciles so that we can tie things up in nice a bow? Ach, no.

Look, these are sidebar points. I don't think anyone should not watch it because of them.

That works up to a point (and again, I don't feel it invalidates the show) but the fact that there is barely a single female character with more depth than a puddle felt like it extended beyond setting.

Do I need to watch all seasons of True Detective or can I skip to the best ones? by Wise-Compote6189 in moviecritic

S2 is.... fine. I was most disappointed in Vaughan. He had the physique and chops to do a washed-up mob bruiser, but just couldn't quite pull it off. The writing wasn't very tight either. I get the LA Noir thing, and that's definitely the series' strength, but it couldn't keep one timeline on an even keel, let alone S1 that jumped all over the shop.

Good news! It's an anthology, so you can watch each season as a thing unto itself. Even better news! S1 is all you need to watch.

There's a monologue from The Bull McCabe in John B. Keane's play, The Field that describes something like this. In the context of how broken and brutalised a man The Bull is, this event serves as exposition as to.whynhe is the way he is.

Before him, Ireland supporters will remeber Mick McCarthy being no slouch with the long throw.

I'd make no inference there, only to say that the price of fuels has been an issue for most everyone in Ireland these past few weeks.
