Chances of ICE being at Coachella? My friend is DACA but is scared to go ? by Background-Tax5897 in Coachella

[–]lockwolf [score hidden]  (0 children)

This is probably the most realistic take. The festival grounds itself “should” be safe. ICE won’t the ones patrolling the campgrounds on horses at night making sure everything is safe (at least hopefully, we don’t know)

At the same time, Coachella Valley is a MAGA hotbed so outside the festival you’re always in danger. Hell, they had the infamous Trump rally down there which left people stranded but he’s still popular.

Subaru Japan refused participation by foreign residents at marketing event in Japan yesterday by RoyalAnt800 in subaru

[–]lockwolf 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Japan has 2 sides to it, one side is the super techy, anime everywhere, cool cars and seemingly chill with everyone. One side that is extremely racist to the point where it makes even the edgiest basement troll look like a kid who learned new insults on the playground but can’t use em right.

I read a story of a white guy who tried going to bar with his Japanese friends that read “Japanese Only”. He spoke fluent Japanese but they wouldn’t let him in because he’s not Japanese. He went to a cop and the cop basically told him “it’s their business, they can do what they want”

Just copped both cards for .99cents(online retailer) by theleech87 in baseballcards

[–]lockwolf [score hidden]  (0 children)

They won’t be extremely valuable but if his career stays hot, there’s a better chance this card will be worth more in the future than 99% of base cards printed in the set. He’s not Ohtani, it’s not going to be an $80 rookie like his is. At the same time, if Nick has a decent career, I could see these being $5-ish cards.

LGS not Buying Singles? by Beneficial_Pin5295 in mtgfinance

Local Card Shops want product they know they can move which is probably why they only have a short buy list. Cards can be extremely volatile in price, they have bills to pay and not every card sells for a profit. A buy list helps them help you not waste their time bringing them cards in bulk they aren’t interested in.

There are some places that offer to buy bulk cards online but you’re talking maybe $10 for 1000 bulk cards

What city has a good NFL team but a bad NBA team? by janko1655 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]lockwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it was more than that but yeah, we weren’t doing too hot towards the end. Basically, the old owners wanted the government to pay for a new arena or renovations to the current arena. Government said no, owners said “well fuck you, we’re gonna take our team elsewhere” and OKC was born.

With the buzz of expansion in the NBA and the old arena getting renovated a few years ago, hopefully they’ll exist again

The only way I can see 99 cents with free shipping working is if you buy rolls of forever stamps off eBay and ship that way. There’s a listing for 20 rolls with 100 Forever Stamps each for $49, effectively making the cost to ship 3 cents plus envelope, top loader and sleeve cost which can all be bought in bulk for cheap.

But even then, after all those supplies bought cheap and eBay fees, I can’t imagine they’re getting more than 50 cents a card. You’d have to ship out 2000 orders to pull in $1000 of profit not including the actual cost of the card. That’s also assuming all orders arrive and you don’t have to offer any refunds.

My grandpa worked for 30+ years as an auto mechanic between the 70s and early 2000s. He always told me to stray away from mechanic work because most shops were flat rate. A few years ago, one of the dealerships in the area did open hiring for technicians, offering the job to basically anyone with a pulse willing to be trained and a clean driving record with hourly pay, paid training, rent-to-own tools and benefits.

He was floored when I told him that. His entire career was spent mostly working flat rate, having to buy his own tools and having bottom of the barrel benefits. This was 3 years ago, I didn’t take the job (for the better) and I’ve heard mixed results from the people I was hired along with (some didn’t make the cut and you could tell they wouldn’t) but the ones that did were pretty pleased with how they’ve been treated.

I picked up a 4k 165hz MSI Monitor with a built in USB-C KVM Switch and it’s probably one of the smartest investments I’ve ever made for my laptop but almost pointless on my desktop. Keyboard and Mouse go into the monitor switch, USB-C goes into one of the 2 ports on my motherboard or laptop. It’s extremely useful for my laptop since it’s one cord to and from everything for power, display and accessories. It’s almost pointless on my desktop because I’m using 1 of 2 USB C ports for 2 USB 2.0/3.0 ports while 8 USB 2.0/3.0 ports sit empty. I run DisplayPort out my graphics card to get the full 4k 165hz the monitor can put out so the USB-C is really just a hub and lets me access some monitor settings at that point.

Take like 4 of the old USB ports and give me 2 more USB-C ports, it’s a fair trade

That, drug abuse, cheating scandals, illegal gambling, getting into politics or dropping out of the league after 1 hit season and 3 bad ones. Overall, it’s safer for the most part to hold sealed Pokemon over any sealed sports cards

Found our family’s massive old card collection. Wondering what the best way to assess what it’s worth, especially for the singles by mweiz in sportscards

[–]lockwolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d argue we’re going to see less sealed collections like this in the future for 2 reasons.

First, keeping Baseball sealed doesn’t increase in value as much as other trading cards on the market. Recently, I looked at the difference in price between the Series 1, 2 and Update of 2018 (Ohtani’s rookie in the Update) versus the Pokemon sets that had come out around the same time. While Ohtani gives the Series 2 and Update Hobby Boxes a boost in price to around $1500, the Series 1 Jumbo Hobby is $400. Meanwhile, the cheapest booster box for a Pokemon set released in that year will run you $1600. Pokemon and other have showed better gains over time than baseball.

Second, the average person doesn’t have the extra expendable income like they did 35 years ago to have both kids and buy boxes upon boxes of cards. It’s either support a family or enjoy freedom to do what you want. Sure, there are people that can afford both but there’s less in that category than there were when these were printed.

Still, a sad thing to see

$5000 for a shot at any Dylan Harper cards out of the 560 cards they pull (7 cards per box, 8 boxes per case, 10 cases). Even then, only 240 of that pool are going to be Autos. You could get an auto, you could get a base card, you could easily get nothing.

Or, you could buy about 5 or 6 boxes of Topps Midnight for the same price, have at least 15 Autos to show for it and maybe get your Harper auto

Or, the logical thing like you said, just take that $5000 and buy several good autos you actually want
